okay, here's some thing that I've been wondering about for a while:
--> why is there often so little magical creativity in HP fan fic?
While I love the emotions and issue exploration in the fics I read and rec, I miss reading that old fantasy staple: a wild burst of imagination in regards to magic methodology.
One fic exemplifies this idea for me :
Clay, by Kass
kassrachel As
painless_j describes it: SS/HP; R; medium-length novella. Ancient Hebrew mysticism combined with modern magic. Very creative, very detailed.
I admire this fic so much because not only did
kassrachel not overstep the canon boundary too much in terms of what potions and spells are realistic in HP fan fic, but she worked the UST into the very mental magical methodology. I think I also liked this fic a lot becuase I'd just read Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco (in which a certain character talks at great length about Kabbalah and the mystical significance of numbers).
- So, are there other fics like this out there? Rec me your favorites please!
