New TV season in UK

Due to the way the American schedules work it often means that in the UK genre series often have two start times , early/mid September and then early January the programs generally run the without a break. Although in recent years Christmas has seemed to force an American style hiatus. Very annoying with regards to lost which I am going off due to ( Read more... )

I haven't seen any of this, but I will say I LOVE SG-1 (admittedly I haven't seen any of the non-Jack stuff who, Faith apart, is my fav tv char ever). Also very impressed with BSG 1 & 2, far better than the original.

Atlantis, don't like. Gave up a few eps into series one, great set but that was it.

Your thoughts on The 4400?

Sorry hope I didn't spoil you. Tried to talk mainly about my views rather than the content of each EP ( ... )

I actually like SG-1 better than anything Joss has done, the heroic chars are far more likable (no Spikes or Buffys), the friends seem to be genuinely friends, you don't have the fubars like the Mass Calling that suggest Joss doesn't think much of the viewers' intelligence, and the villians (Angelus and the Mayor apart) more intimidating.

For me it's Bab 5, SG-1, Angel, Tru Calling, Quantum Leap, and BSG in that order. Hon mentions for American Gothic and The 4400.

Nah, I love The 4400, the coupling of the two leads work well, it's an interesting premise, I like it a lot.

Agree with you on Ultra-Violet though.

On Joss I think now that the shows really missed Greenwalt who kept the earlier continuity tighter.

Well also a fan of B5 although I cringe at the get the hell out of my galaxy line. Thought that was a crap ending to the shadow war.

Thought tru calling was showing promise in S2 . The premise suffered in S1.

On the others sorry just not for me. The only recent thing that has hooked me has been Lost again for the characters. My jury is waiting on Jericho and Heroes.

I recently rewatched Logans run from the 70's which needless to say was much shorter than my childhood recollection. Thought it went on forever not 14 Eps. Thought it had aged pretty well once you looked past the SFX.

Mind you I am still a great fan of the Day of the Triffids and Blakes 7.

Would Greenwhalt have allowed the brain fart of keep around a soulless vampire with a chip that might fail at any time? Doubt it.

Bab 5 for me is just fantastic. The partnership of G'Kar and Londo, and the growth the two chars go through is my favourite arc of all time. Also, the heroes, while flawed were still likable people.

Tru Calling I know technically wasn't the greatest show (too many eps too similar and Luc was Tru's Riley in the bland sense), but there was a likability to Tru, her brother, and Davies. I also thought S2 was much better than S1, although S1 in my favourite Season finale of all time.

Lost? I knwo what you're saying about Kate, I get so sick of the girls being conflicted between the good guy and the bad guy. I have a higher opinion of women's intelligence than that. Apart from that though, the arcs are brilliantly written.

Loved Blake's 7 too.

I actually like Sawyer whereas Spike I only liked in S2 and the Thanksgiving ep.

Just wish for once the actual heroic lead could get the girl. Bad boy angst has been done to death. The ep prior to this clearly showed it the other way as did all the previous interactions then a cheap 180. Kate clearly cared for Sawyer but loved Jack.

Sawyer and Jacks gradual realisation that they are friends was one of the things I liked and this just throws a monkey wrench in that despite being so predictable. Especially to a Buffy fan.

Oh yeah, Sawyer never gave me gas like Spike did. He was an asshole, but an understandable one and one with more than one side to him.

My problem with the whole storyline was the same as yours. heroic lead getting the girl.

Buffy did it twice (if you count Angel as bad as some do).

Tru was going to do it with Jack if the show hadn't been cancelled (at which point I would have bailed).

It happens time and time again, and is boring and overdone.
