No kid yet. I kept trying to take naps this week, but people kept calling asking if we had the baby yet. Oh, yeah. We had the kid and went home and just didn't tell anyone. We're jerks like that. heehee Come on, like we could even keep the pregnancy a secret. We were telling everyone at 5 weeks, and you're supposed to wait 3 months. Me like attention! But we knew that.
So the phones are unplugged or on silent, but to keep people from freaking about why we are radio silence, we are updating our message every day to say no baby yet. I am 3 days past my due date, but I will be 2 weeks past it before they even talk about inducing. So we have plenty of time. Which is a good thing for 2 reasons: 1-There's a lot to do still, so we aren't just standing around and 2-I have a horrible cold sore, so I could not kiss my newborn. That sucks to no end. But if the baby comes now, I will just cope accordingly. It's my issue, not trauma for the kid. I'm still hoping not to go into labor for a few more days so it clears up. I stopped caring about what I look like with a big blob of Abreva on my lip. I just want the damn thing healed.
Otherwise, we are all doing well. The baby is moving, I go between being really uncomfortable and just fine regularly, and Brian is out installing electrical outlets in the rec room. Which is almost done, by the way. It won't be done before the baby gets here, as the County and PG&E screwed up our permit stuff, but the baby can sleep in our room until s/he outgrows the bassinet, so no biggie. It is beyond annoying the state of this house, but my priorities have changed. It can stay a pigsty, where you can't even see the carpet, let alone vacuum it, if I get to sleep. I don't get enough sleep. Hence the radio silence with the phones. In fact, I need to go take a nap right now before we go down to visit BayCon. Since actual labor takes a long time, we could be down there and it starts and we'd still have like, a minimum of 5 hours to get to Martinez. Most people have seen too many movies where it all happens very quickly, but that's not true. The good news is, it is more of a serious discomfort than screaming pain. That was another misconception of mine. I actually bit my tongue and listened to my mother, and realized those low backaches were actually early contractions. Thank goodness I figured that out!
But somewhere in the next week or so, we'll probably have this kid, and then Brian will get on the phone and start calling everyone. We'll be using a phone tree, loosely broken up. So if you get multiple phone calls, it's because so many of our friends are monkeys who hop from tree to tree. (Most of the San Jose people are also Davis people, hence 2 calls.) And besides, the usual efficiency coordinator of things like this will be busy actually delivering our own little alien. As long as everyone knows, eh? Oh, and the plan is to stay in the hospital in Martinez a day or two, and if people are in the neighborhood, popping by during visiting hours is fine. However, once we go home we will cocoon ourselves for 4-5 days to try and recover without interruption and bond as a family. Then we will have a Meet the Baby open house, and everyone can come over. This is the plan. We have enough precooked meals to last a while (thanks to Angele and Costco) so we'll be okay. Brian will be answering calls. I'll be in bed. Much love to all, and thanks for putting up with us as we venture into uncharted (for us) territory. Take care, and we will keep you posted!
