Ooh I knew you would end up doing this post. Personally I think my opinion on this changes depending on my own mood. For example, I think his current career situation could be a bit daunting and I imagine he would feel a bit lost because that's how I would probably be feeling.
It's been a while since we saw a proper interview with him and I think seeing him the other day showed that he is actually doing ok and we shouldn't read so much into things. I only theorise with you because I know you'll let me without looking at me like I'm weird. Plus I'm sure he can take care of himself and has people around him that he can talk to if needed. And between you and me, I'm pretty sure he has his back problems under control. If he was suffering from it, he wouldn't be able to lead such an active life.
I do think that being famous isn't as amazing as we all think it is. I'm sure he has the same problems as the rest of us, and although he has a job a lot of people would kill for, I imagine location shoots could be difficult if you are away from home for a long period of time. But then that's what the job is and that's what he's chosen to do.
And I wouldn't deny him a hug, because everyone needs hugs, even if they don't think they do, and even if they are virtual hugs. But I would give him a hug because it meant something and not just for the sake of hugging a famous person. Shallow hugs like that are pointless. Real hugs are the only way to go.
ps - congrats on doing your first poll. pps - Where is this Antarctic picture ppps - Where did you get the GN screencap *drools* I've decided the hair is much better IRL than in still photo's so now I love it! :D
Ooh I knew you would end up doing this post. Personally I think my opinion on this changes depending on my own mood. Hehe, yes I couldn't help myself after our discussion - and I have been wondering about these things for a while. I'm completely like you - my position changes as the wind blows (as you've probably realized by now!). One day I know for sure he's at home with his boyfriend in London and the next day he is busy with Penelope. No need to take a firm stance when it's more fun to participate in all the possibilities :) And I would never look at you as if you were weird; we're sane people for sure.
I agree with the back analysis. And also think he has a strong support system - he seems to have some very close non-famous friends (or more - depending on the day right!) which I'm sure is healthy and good for 'grounding him'. And yeah, every job/life style has its disadvantages. I'm sure it isn't great all the time (just not sure how sorry for him we need to feel, I gather his life is pretty great for the most parts).
A real, non-shallow hug to you.
And - Yuippie my first poll *feels very proud*. It wasn't actually that difficult - although I did send one into cyper-space and it didn't hit my journal, wonder where it went. - The Antarctica pic is here http://elflady.com/orlandolove/showpost.php?p=494301&postcount=1 - I can't remember where I found the screencap. I feel bad now - probably should have credited (but I don't think you can really own the rights to a photo shown on national TV, right?!)
I saw JenLynn posted some caps on faces_fit last night ;-) and how can people read anything from that antarctic pic? It's just a regular old snapshot. I don't think you can analyse a photo like that!
I don't think you can analyse a photo like that! I Knoooow. That's what's so strange about it. It is clearly an internal urge for some people that he must be suffering so they see it everywhere.
Glad you found the Screen caps (That's not where I got it because I don't know that place but I still can't remember where I did steal it).
I've really enjoyed reading through this discussion :) I don't have anything new and exciting to add, but I did want to say that I really agree w/this:
"No need to take a firm stance when it's more fun to participate in all the possibilities :)"
I very much love the endless possibilities to our imaginings!
Hehe, yeah it's better to keep an open mind and choose what fits your imagination on any given day. I would hate to take a firm position and then it turned out to be wrong; that would just be dissapointing - now we're not set up for a fall... We'll run with whatever!
