This is a rant inspired by some trends in comics in the past 25 years. This is the trend towards angst, lots of angst, for everyone. I don't mind my heroes to have problems, I don't mind them question their actions every now and then, it's healthy. I don't mind "realism" (and if you think there is any real about this "realism" I have few bridge to sell you). But I would like to point out, "the Goddamn Batman" is "a Goddamn Asshole" and villain like Punisher, and he should be considered a danger to himself and others and locked in a padded cell.
I still love comics, and the asshole is not a bad character. I love Constantine: he is a great character and huge douchebag, but at least no one pretends he is anything else but a self-serving asshole who every now and than stumbles across the Right Thing To Do. I just wish people would stop treating these characters like good people as well as interesting characters.
