My car just awesome-d itself. If that's even possible. You know, cuz its way awesome.
So I got an unexpected call from my mechanic yesterday saying the guy who had sold me my MR2 had found the manual to it and left it with him for me to pick up.
Needless to say I was shocked! Given, the guy who sold me the MR2 ironically works at a sheet metal place located next to my mechanics garage... But still! Three years later he finds the manual and is nice enough to make sure I get it.
Not only did the little rubber dealership envelope contain the manual, but also service records, THE ORIGINAL BILL OF SALE, and an article cut right out of the Press Democrat from July 1, 1988 talking all about the '88 Super Charged MR2. I assume this is the article that led the original buyers to purchase my car.
It also has a little snippet off to the side about how Insurance helped kill the Pontiac Fiero. :p
So I thought that was pretty awesome. Now I know where my car was originally purchased (Fairfield Toyota, Fairfield, CA) when (July 9, 1988) for how much ($19,816.52) and it came with a 6 year/75,000 mile warranty. Which is interesting because the car only has 84k original miles! :p
I also gathered from the paperwork that the original owners still had it in 2000 and may have sold it in 2000 or 2002, but most likely the latter as there is also a smog inspection report stating the reason for smog: change of ownership. There were was one owner after that per the previous owner. I almost certainly now know my car has had a total of four owners, including myself. And certainly was owned for a long time by the original owners and dealer serviced during that time.
If anyone wants to read the article, is pretty entertaining from a 1980's point of view.
