Okay I *SO* totally think that what the HR manager said was WRONG! If I was my mother, I would've told her "Excuse me, but you ask me if I want this job... and now I may not even GET the damned thing?" (I tried to be professional, but I don't know exactly what she told you). That's messed up! False advertising, almost! I mean seriously!! How the hell can she say "may or may not" when she was discussing you coming down early to help out, and then coming back up a few weeks later? That's a terrible thing to lead someoen on, especially a grad student who has to move to a different island! Sheesh!

And I commend you on being a great daughter by paying for 1/2 your grad party. I would've had a fit, but I'm just a bitch like that. :) *hugs*
