[Regret; Open]

Feb 04, 2007 12:35

*Gust sat on the wide stone window ledge of her room. The stone was rough and cold against her skin where she leant against it, and her feet dangled over the edge, buffeted by the chill mountain winds. The mansion was so quiet now, empty apart from her. Everyone else had... left. But she really didn't have anywhere else to go. She couldn't go to ( Read more... )

((OOC: Presumably a separate thread from what happens with Terra. Otherwise...uh...we can assume Terra took a quick trip to the bathroom. ^_~))

Everything had gone terribly wrong, and Silvermane had missed her Grampa John so much that she'd gone and visited for a time. After what had happened with Aristotle, she'd needed time away. Not just from the Dragons, but from everything affiliated with being a super hero. She needed a chance to be the timid, scared little girl she'd always been.

During her visit, it was her Grampa John that told her she was a lot stronger and braver than she gave herself credit for...and told her it would take courage to go back, but he believed that was what she needed to do, now.

Courtesy of the metal in her clothing, she floated to Gust's window.

"Y-you know...it's pretty cold out here," she said softly as a greeting.

*Gust wasn't used to being scared or timid, but she certainly wasn't her usual, confident self right now. She looked up at Silvermane and then back down at her feet.*

Don't mind cold. Helps to think.

Ordinarily, Silvermane wasn't the bold one, but she knew she had to be this time. More than two years ago, when she'd first joined the Dragons, Gust had been the first to reach out to her, then Corey. They were the first outside of her adoptive family to make her feel comfortable with who she was, and to give her the courage to walk around with her hair uncovered, for all to see.

Now, after everything that had transpired, it was Silvermane's turn to reach out to Gust.

"G-good thing I came warmly dressed, then," she said. "Um...well...mind if I join you on t-that windowsill?"

*After a moment of being quietly agog, Gust shuffled to the side slightly.*

Don't mind.

*She just wondered why, after everything, Silvermane would want to be near her at all.*

Silvermane settled down next to Gust. What had happened wasn't an easy subject to talk about, and harder yet to bring up. And then there was the fact that she'd been completely right about being creeped out by Slizzath, but she wasn't going to bring him up to Gust. Not now.

"Um...well...I j-just wanted to let you know that if you needed to talk about anything, you can talk to me," she said. Tentatively, she reached over and gave Gust's hand a gentle squeeze. "T-that's what friends are for, right?"

*Gust blinked down at her hand, then looked at Silvermane, cautiously hopeful.*

Still... friends?

"Y-you made a mistake," said Silvermane softly. "One mistake d-doesn't make you a bad person...no matter what it is. B-besides...I can tell you've been beating yourself up for it worse than anyone else could."

She offered her friend a smile. "So um...yes. D-definitely still friends."

*Gust smiled weakly and looked down at her hands again. Part of her wanted to hug Silvermane but she still felt a little too awkward for that.*

Thank you. And sorry... will make up for it. I promise.

"I...I should b-be sorry too," said Silvermane with a little sigh. "I um...I knew something was wrong with Slizzath - I didn't know h-he'd be that bad, but I knew something was wrong. And I was too afraid to speak up. I thought y-you'd get mad at me, and that Aristotle wouldn't believe me, or say I just didn't know him well enough..."

Not speaking up about Slizzath was her biggest regret in all of this. However, trusting Aristotle so blindly with regards to the ritual was another.

*Gust thought about that for a moment. She couldn't really say what Aristotle's reaction would have been, but Silvermane was probably right - the old man had trusted Slizzath implicitly. And so had she, in a way. She probably would have been upset at Silvermane if she'd said anything, that was true.*

He was very good at lying. Would have talked out of doubts.

Silvermane nodded. Her mistrust of Slizzath had been more based on feelings - he'd creeped her out from the moment she met him, and that feeling had never wavered over time. It was also based on the fact that the way he'd practiced his necromancy...he didn't seem to have respect for the dead. He'd use them as tools - formerly alive people - as tools.

"Just...um...well...d-don't let that spoil your views on love," she said, in the hopes of being encouraging. "Somewhere out there, t-there's someone who'll know exactly how special you are - not because of your powers, but because of what kind of person you are."

*Gust blushed and brushed some of her hair behind her ear.* Ah... hope so.

*It was probably a good time for a subject change, to something less personal, but no less important.* What will you do now?

((OOC: Feel free to prod me if I take long to reply again))

"Well...I've um...b-been thinking," said Silvermane, quite seriously. "About restarting the Dragons. Um...well....obviously n-not with the immortality goal. But I don't think that Aristotle was wrong about everything. W-we were all born with amazing gifts, and I think we could help a lot of people."

It was hard for Silvermane to bring it up because it would be her responsibility to start the group up. She didn't have a lot of confidence and had never thought of herself as a leader, but at the same time, this was something she felt strongly about. Not just that, but ever since she'd managed to stand up to Slizzath, she felt a tiny bit more confident. At least when it came to doing what she knew was right. Confidence in other respects would come later with a lot of time.

"I-if I restarted the Dragons as a superhero team, would you join me?" she asked. "I don't think I could do it without you and Corey."

*Gust listened carefully, and was quiet for a moment afterwards. Then her expression brightened.*

Of course! That is a good idea, I like it. *Her face fell as something else occurred to her, though* But - will everyone else, will they be okay with me being there? Not... not everyone is going to... forgive me for what happened.

Silvermane paused, thinking on how she should word her answer. Part of her wanted to say that Gust was one of her best friends, and anyone who didn't like that could just go sit on a tack. But the part of her that was contemplating the semi-crazy idea of leading the new version of the Dragons knew she had to be a little more reasonable about this ( ... )
