So it's been a while since I've posted on this so I thought I'd make an update.
I started work with the Coast Guard last week (June 20) and so far have completed four full shifts as a Marine Communications and Traffic Services Officer Trainee. It's gone real well, the job is interesting, the people are nice and the twelve hour days have gone by surprisingly quick. Tomorrow I start my second four shift rotation and work Thursday and Friday day (7:30AM-7:30PM) and Saturday and Sunday night (7:30PM-7:30AM). After that it's four days off and then I leave for Nova Scotia on Friday July 7 and stay there until December. I'm really going to miss everyone here while I'm gone and I almost certainly will be posted to somewhere outside Victoria to start my career. Personally I'm hoping for Vancouver but it could be Ucluelet or Prince Rupert. However I'm going to do everything in my power to avoid Rupert and assuming as I do that I succeed in that I'll still be coming home (Victoria will always be home to me in a way) to Victoria often and so will have plenty of chances to see everyone when I get back.
On my days off I went camping with Rob, Dyanna, Felicia and Bailey to Sombrio Beach which is just under an hour past Sooke. While the conditions were quite primitive and I'm not exactly an outdoorsy type I had a good time. It was nice to spend such a solid chunk of time with friends before I leave. Tuesday night I played in Brock's Hunter game along with Kelly, Neil and Pete. Brock did a really good job running an interesting game and we had an dnlightening conversation for a while afterwords as well as a trip down to Cadboro Bay Beach. Today I took it easy, went for a walk with my puppy and bought some snacking food for work and that was about it.
Next week when I get off work I'm going to try to be seeing as many people as possible before I leave. I've already talked to a few of you who I want to see and hopefully I'll see you all before I leave. How many people are free Thursday night for a little get together? I don't want to do anything fancy, just see as many friends as possible before I leave. Well I have to be up at six for work tomorrow so that's all for now and I'll talk to you all soon.
