Wow it's been a while

So I just realized that it's been almost a month since I've posted an update. April has been quite the month for me. I'll start with my future. In February I applied for a full time job as a Maritime Communications and Traffic Services Officer with the Canadian Coast Guard. I didn't really think I had much of a chance but I made it to the interview stage and last week I got an e-mail saying that pending reference checks, security clearance and a medical check I've got the job. It's been over a week and I'm still recovering from the shock. Assuming I'm not a Chinese spy and pass the rest of the steps I outlined below I'll be off to the Coast Guard College in Sydney, Nova Scotia for 25 weeks of training after which (assuming I make it through the college) I'll be sent to one of Victoria, Vancouver, Comox, Ucluelet or Prince Rupert. The concept of a) starting a new job and b) moving out onto my own in the world is both exciting and scary at the same time and I've been occupying quite a bit of my time with obsessing over the details ever since I heard the news. I've looked at apartments, cars, commutes you name it if there's a minor detail I can obsess over I've done it. So now I'm just waiting to find out whether I pass the checking and when I'll be going to Cape Breton Island. Meanwhile people start planning your trips to come see me in Victoria, Vancouver, Comox, Ucluelet or Prince Rupert, I'll let you know which one eventually ;)

At the same time I've been writing exams. They are going alright but I've been having a hard time focusing on them properly since the job announcement but my last one is on Thursday and it could very well be my very last exam ever or at least for a very long time. Tuesday I'm planning on going over to Vancouver to spend a day or two over there. Plus I'm still working at the lab but I gotta say the idea of being done with that is rather appealing. Don't get me wrong it's been a good job but I think I'm ready for a change.

One last thing, way to go on graduating Rob!!! I wish I was going to be standing on the stage with you in May but I'll have to do it vicariously through you.

Oh yeah and for everyone who's moving or thinking of moving, Terry's Minivan Moving Ltd. is available to help out. Rob's promised dinner at Pags but I'm willing to take a wide variety of compensation ;)
