Joe and I went over to our friends’ house for dinner again tonight, and I’m so happy- again- to be making new friends. Through Nicky and Katy, I’ve met their friend Sean a bunch of times- they go to church together. He knows Tom and Laura, and now Joe and I have become friends with them. We’ve been over for dinner twice in the past few weeks now to Tom and Laura’s, and it’s so fun. I love being around people who are nerdy and who get nerdy jokes. Tom and I look to each other to make Calvin and Hobbes references (plus their orange cat is named Calvin). Joe makes Buffy references and Laura fist-bumps him. We all make inappropriate sexual jokes, and then nerdy ones right after. Last time we were there, they had a time machine in their dining room. (It’s since been “retired.”) There have been other friends over for dinner both times, and even though those folks aren’t as fun as Sean, Laura, and Tom all are, it’s nice to get to meet other people. And while I’m not looking for “couple friends,” as in friends who are couples who Joe and I can hang out with and do couple-y things with, it’s fun to have friends that Joe and I know and like equally well.
