- it has been such a long time since I wrote a fic… but now I have more time (holidays)
I know humans shouldn’t be selfish. They’re supposed to help each other and be happy about other people being happy. But it doesn’t work like that. That’s the first thing I learnt when it comes to love. When someone falls in love with the person you love, would you be happy for him or her? I guess not, because it’s the worst. Especially if said person is your friend.
‘Hiro! You coming?’
I turned around. Taisuke stood at the door to our dressing room, waiting for me.
‘Sorry, I was in thoughts.’ I grabbed my bag and walked out with him.
‘Where should we go for dinner? I’m starving!’
‘Why don’t we go eating soba like last week? The little restaurant two streets away?’, I suggested. He liked it there, too.
‘Good idea, Hiro! Let’s go there!’, Taisuke responded cheerfully.
We were waiting for our noodles, so I tried to ask Taisuke about Wataru. ‘So… what’s been going on with you and Watta lately? You two seem very quiet.’
‘I guess he’s in a bad mood or so…’ He looked away, with a slightly painful look on his face. I took his hand under the table. ‘It’s not your fault, you know that, right?’
He sighed. ‘Yeah I do know, but somehow I still feel guilty. I mean I chose you over him, so he's hurt of course.’
I felt really bad, seeing him like that. ‘You know… It might be my fault.’
‘Huh?’
‘A couple days ago, after rehearsal… When you had already left for dinner with your parents, he asked how things between us were and I told him everything was fine.’
‘Well, where’s the problem then?’
‘I might have said something like “Well, he’s been happy with me”.'
Taisuke groaned. ‘Hiro. You don’t have to point out that you’re the lucky winner or whatsoever all the time. Wataru already knows that he lost. So could please stop telling him about your victory? It’s really annoying.’
‘I’m sorry.’
‘You should be. You don’t make it easier for him.’
I took his hand. ‘It’s just that I love you so much. And I want him to know it.’
‘Why? To show him that you’re better than him?’
‘No. I want him to know that I care about you. A lot. And that I deserve you.’ I looked desperately at him and took his hand. ‘That’s why you chose me, right?’
He sighed. ‘Yeah. But don’t forget that Wataru is my friend. And I don’t want to make every minute he’s with us to be painful. Do you understand?’
‘Yeah.’
He smiled. ‘Good. Let’s go to your place.’ He looked hungrily at me. ‘We still have unfinished business from rehearsal where you danced so hot.’
The next day we met Wataru at rehearsal, he had a knowing look in his eyes. It was probably because of our tired expression and the fact that we were both late.
There was also a bit of a longing expression on his face. And I couldn’t help but smile at him and think “I’m the one he chose.”
Humans are selfish little monsters after all.
