what does it all mean really?

Okay, so business first - I moved. No longer in "ghettovale" as I tragically only discovered last week my neighbourhood is called....I also want to apologize for that last "sentence". Not in a mood to edit so it will stay as I move on to other things. I'm not going to gush ad nauseum at how awesome my new situation is, both comparatively and independently....I've already done that. I'm not going to expound at great lengths at the valour and determination of the only person not related to me by blood who delivered on a promise to help me move, but I TOTALLY owe you an incalculable amount that you will probably never ask me to estimate. Thanks C.

No, this is about walking. I've discovered walking. Not much of an option round here, everything is close by but there's no parking. So I walk. My headphones are broken so I've been walking sans iPod....I'm wondering if I might want to continue. I've been noticing things that amuse me far more than the juxtaposition of Miles Davis and Tony!Toni!Toné! as playlist neighbours.

I saw a porsche. Okay, so really I've seen about 20 porsches in the last few days. Other makes and models of high-end auto as well, but the porsche's are in an oddly noticeable majority. But just now as I walked down Yonge I saw a porsche with a parking ticket. That made me smile

I saw a woman hurriedly and awkwardly traipse through a garden because her large dog had decided to make it a part of their walk.

I saw a homeless man light up a joint and watched two young kids (maybe 10) stare slackjawed at him as he took his first pulls.

So I see these things and they get my brain spinning. Why didn't I see things like this before? There MUST be porsches in mississauga, gardens, dogs, women, kids, homeless people, marijuana, all of these things exist. Why didn't I see them? Pretty sure it's just because I'm unobservant unless I'm paying attention, but I'm wondering if it's just an aspect of city vs suburb. So that sends me thinking as well....what does suburban mean? I'm fairly sure that the etymology of "suburban" is an extension of "suburb", but allow me to experiment with a hyphen here and make it sub-urban.....who came up with this term? Pretty sure it wasn't someone who lived in the 'burbs...

There was an article in the Star today discussing urban planning that made reference to the geography owned by the SOBs (South of Bloor Streeters) and the differences (apparently declining) between that area of the city with its largely carless population, tight infrastructure and surprising lack of highrise dwellings.....

As you drive north on Yonge from the lake you can actually see things gradually spread out until you hit Lawrence and suddenly there's no street parking, traffic lightens considerably, flow picks up, the buildings are all taller but there's more room but there's clearly some intangible that was present 3 blocks before that is now missing.

50 years from now will Scarborough be considered part of Old Toronto while Whitby and Oshawa become the new "sub-Toronto"?

Just wondering....
