Okay, so yesterday, I went to Fry's and got
the hard drive I've been lusting after, along with an external drive enclosure and a copy of Snow Leopard. The plan is to replace my Mac Mini's current (smaller, slower) internal hard drive with the shiny new one.
I'm having trouble figuring out what would work best logistically. I'm planning to (temporarily) put the new hard drive in the enclosure and configure it as a bootable drive before doing the hardware swap. But should I upgrade my current hard drive with Snow Leopard, then use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to create a bootable backup onto the new drive? This has the virtue of being simple and relatively foolproof. Or I could install Snow Leopard on the new drive, then manually (or automated-ly) transfer over my data and user files. This has the advantage of being a clean install, free of any and all cruft that might be lurking on my old system. But on the other hand, I might miss something and/or screw something up.
And I'm sure there are other options and combinations I haven't even considered! So: any thoughts? suggestions? advice? ways to avoid catastrophe?
Any and all thoughts greatly appreciated!
