Kelly and I saw the special showing with the director and writer QA last night.
The movie was really, really good. It was crass, brutal and cheesy, but it was fun as hell. Think Rocky Horror. This has the potential to be the next RHPS. A World of Darkness RHPS.
The QA session was pretty much a mutual dick-sucking between the creators and the hard-core fans. According to the show of hands, about half the theater was from out of state. However, it was exciting and entertaining to see the sort of grass-roots support for a creative endeavor.
I will say this, though. As much as I am a rampant abuser of BitTorrent, I agree with the points they made: downloading Repo stuff really does hurt the creators in this instance. They are depending on soundtrack and ticket sales to prove to their studio that the project is worth a damn. This is a show that deserves as wide a release as it can get.
If you get a chance to get a ticket for the Repo Road Tour, DO IT. It shows support for indie creativity and you might be getting your only chance to see a movie that NEEDS to be seen in a theater with a group of enthusiastic fans to get the full experience.
Also, it should be noted that with this movie, Paris Hilton has officially done something of merit to deserve a portion of her fame.
