Toronto mini trip report

Sep 11, 2010 08:12

A bit of a wacky day sleep-wise. Went to bed at 2:30 AM on the west coast, woke up at 6:30 AM to fly, slept for an hour on the plane, landed at 4:30 PM Eastern, stayed up until midnight whereupon I slept to 4 AM. So I'm expecting to be sleeping a lot on the plane to San José.

Bit of a cool moment driving from the airport to the hotel. I actually missed the freeway exit and ended up driving along some road that runs parallel and really close to the Pearson runway. So a big Air Canada jet was landing in the opposite direction and as it touched down I was able to smell the burning rubber from the tires. For those of you who actually have experience around planes this is terribly uninteresting but for me it was cool to see a landing from that close.

Rented a car and drove into the city to see The Second City comedy show. Despite good reviews I wasn't sure if I liked it, but I really did. There were some iffy sketches, but they finished very strong and by the last few sketches everyone was pretty much dying of laughter.

And that's...pretty much it. I have to say Toronto nightlife definitely seems way more happening than Vancouver, with a lot more people getting dressed up and hitting the town for one thing or another. Possibly the Film Festival starting had something to do with it. Still, I was pretty surprised getting on the freeway exiting downtown at 11:30 PM and being stuck in traffic.

Oh, also Budget sucks as a rental car company, at least here in Pearson. They charged me $20 for like maybe 4 litres of gas. Might write an angry letter to corporate, or may just go back to always using Enterprise like I typically do.

Off to Costa Rica in an hour and change.
