Interesting comments.

Re: crowd. I've definitely been to louder games in that building. I think everyone was really nervous. More like tension rather than lack of life. Actually in some sense, the Russia game was more fun, for that reason.

Re: quality of game. Well there are a couple things that go into making a "great game". There is the relevance of the game. For this one there can be no dispute; it's one of the most important hockey games of this generation (for Canadians, the most significant game since 1987, and for Americans the closest they have gotten since 1980). Then there is the objective quality of the game itself, which is your point. There were probably more scoring chances in the round-robin game, but it was also kind of a sloppy game. I think that was a by-product of the teams not gelling as much as that point, but also the lack of importance on the game.

I didn't actually attend the USA-Canada round-robin game because I couldn't justify 4-figures on a game that didn't really have serious repercussions. So that's kind of my feeling looking back; the gold-medal game on an objective level wasn't like ZOMGBESTHOCKEYEVER but when combined with its relevance it's going to be one that's remembered for a while.
