I have a busy weekend coming up. Saturday is UFC 74; Couture vs. Gonzaga and GSP vs. Koscheck. On Sunday is the wedding of
sabyl and Steve Landrum in Lake Tahoe. The next morning Laren and I will be flying out to Barcelona. I am again doing colour commentary for the World Cup of Poker September 4-7, so I figured I'd also play the EPT Barcelona event as well. It is also Laren's birthday on 9/7, and because her passport finally arrived yesterday, she'll get to spend it in La Gran Encisera.
I'd like to optimize my sleep schedule such that I minimize jet lag upon arrival in Barcelona. Making things tricky is the fact our flights out of Vancouver and Reno are all early morning. Here's what I've figured out.
Saturday, 8/25:
Wake up a couple hours earlier than usual, say around 900h.
UFC 74 from 1900-2200h.
In bed at 2300h.
Sunday, 8/26:
Wake up at 0400h, arrive at airport 0500h.
First flight departs Vancouver at 0810h, second flight arrives Reno at 1212h. Maybe sleep an hour on the second flight, if I'm lucky.
Drive to Lake Tahoe, check in to hotel but do not sleep.
Wedding at 1800h.
In bed by 0000h.
Monday, 8/27:
Wake up at 0300h to drive back to Reno. This is the part that's gonna suck most.
Flight departs Reno 0605h arrives in Atlanta 1332h local (4h27m duration). Hopefully sleep another 3 hours on this flight.
Spend layover in airport lounge. Maybe nap but not for more than an hour or two.
Flight departs Atlanta 2000h, arriving in Barcelona 1105h local (9h5m duration). Get in a solid 6-hour sleep.
Tuesday, 8/28:
If all is according to plan, I'll be quite tired but not a corpse. I try to keep busy until midnight or as late as possible to get on local time.
Wednesday, 8/29:
Play in Day 1B of the EPT Barcelona Open. Amass chips.
I like my plan, but there's about a zillion ways it can go wrong. Flight changes, inability to fall asleep, oversleeping, and so forth. Usually I'm pretty good at this stuff. But it's also contingent on Laren's willingness to cooperate.
This morning's weight: 138.2. Woohoo!
