Very Thankful

To those celebrating today, Happy Thanksgiving! Even if you aren’t celebrating, take a moment to be grateful for the wonderful things in your lives - loving family, amazing friends, adorable pets, warm homes, and good health.

Sorry for not posting in a long, long time here. I could use a variety of excuses, but honestly, I feel horrible for not writing anything new in ages. I started a new SxS fic in February, got about 4,000 words into it, and then… I assume I fell into a coma or something since it’s now November. :p Truly, I have been busy with work and very random activities, but I’ve also spent more than enough time on TV and falling back into anime. Yes, after several years, I’m back to binge watching anime like the addict I am.

I won’t bore you with details, so here are the major events of the year:

Work has gotten slower, which is both nice and insanely boring. I went from working 12hr days down to having barely enough work to keep me busy 6-8hrs in a day. My “problem” is that I’m very good at working hard on the front end to create reports and spreadsheets that become plug-n-play, so something that takes me days at the front-end eventually gets to the point of a few hours of work. So, I’m doing the exact same output, but in less time, and my boss doesn’t believe me when I say that I need more things to do. Go figure. I’m really getting to the point of dragging the laptop to my office and using that to write while I should be working, but it makes me feel guilty. Still, it’d be better than staring blankly at a computer screen, I guess.

Otherwise, the company is most definitely going to be sold. When is a question mark, but we don’t make any cash and we aren’t meeting budgeted revenue targets. My best guess is a 2016 sale since we’ll need a clean financial statement to solicit buyers (aka 2014 financials, to be audited mid-2015). Then it’ll take several months to woo and bargain until we get the price the parent company wants. Then that buyer will probably want 2015 audited financials, which means 2016 final sale. In the meantime, I’m enjoying the ride and taking advantage of the situation. Finding the next job won’t be difficult and likely better paying, too. But mostly, I’m looking forward to something more challenging.

In sad news, Skid’s heart finally failed him. My cat was 2yrs-old when he was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, a thickening of the heart muscles, and he was given months to years to live by the vet. He lived 5 great years, 4 of which with me. I’m still feeling guilty about his death since I was at Denver Comic Con at the time and stayed later than planned…. But I know that even if I was home, I wouldn’t have been able to do anything. He had a seizure, his heart failed, and there isn’t much to be done about that. Skid was an amazing first cat, and he’ll always have a special place in my heart.

A couple of months later, I had a bit of a cat saga. I won’t go into details, but I originally wanted to get two cats since I have started traveling for work, which means a week in Illinois every other month. I thought two cats could keep each other company, but yeah…. I found a male cat (5 years old) I adored from the beginning (only shelter cats for me!) and attempted two different female cats on separate occasions, but the females were bitches and simply had no interest in me and would attack the male cat. So, after a 6 week long saga, I ended up only keeping the male cat and naming him Dean after Supernatural’s Dean Winchester and his love of meat (seriously this cat is going to injure himself in the attempt to get a scrap of beef). Maybe one day I’ll try a second cat again (thinking to attempt a male kitten), and that cat’s name is already decided as Sammy. ^v^

Beyond all of that, I’ve been having a lot of fun. I went back to Yaoi Con after years of not going, and realized that I completely missed it. I upgraded my Avalanche season tickets for a better view. I was literally the first person to purchase the Geek package at the Colorado Symphony, something I learned when I went to Denver Comic Con. I’ve continued going to the Denver Art Museum for their Untitled events. I went to a couple of comedy festivals, the ballet, and the opera. I got a Crunchyroll subscription and have gotten back into the anime scene. I’ve read more books this year than I have in the last five years. In all, I have nothing to complain about, and everything to be grateful for this year.

And that’s the update this time. Thank you to all of you for your continued support and patience. I hope everyone is doing well, and we’ll see when I get around to posting the next time! ^v^
