KttB Today

Today's KttB (Knitting through the Bible) progress:

Ruth, 1-4 (completed)
Isaiah, 1-53 (yes, I did a lot of knitting today! I want to get the Eleanora socks done before convention so I can wear them with my black "Si hoc legere scis, magistrae linguae latinae gratias agas!" t-shirt...)

Eleanora socks: I've started the toe on Sock Two! 21 rows left to go on that, and then I can do the toe on Sock One. The third skein/different dye lot of yarn is, happily, blending just fine! (Look at the fourth picture: can you see where the new yarn starts? No? Neither can I. :-)

Thoughts & Remarks:

Ruth: One of my favorite books. Probably at least in part because, being short, it was always a quick and easy read when I was young and impatient. Okay, so now I'm not-so-young and still quite impatient with my Bible reading, so that's still a part of it. But also, it makes a sort of quirky romance. And the poetry of the "Whither thou goest I will go..." passage never fails to delight me.

Isaiah: Listening to huge chunks of it like this, it's interesting to hear some of the messianic prophecies...in context. I.e., surrounded by other prophecies that...just don't really mean much to me. Long sections that I don't really recognize, not sure who the kings and such are he's prophesying against...and then in the midst of it, "Unto us a son is born" and that sort of thing. We hear and preach those messianic parts frequently enough as to make the surrounding parts seem quite alien and antiquated when I hear the whole thing in context. And yet, this is the context they originally fit into...

And I guess it's been a while since the last time I read Isaiah in KJV, but...what is this about satyrs and unicorns and dragons? You know, that's much more fun than the way the modern translations translate those words..."jackals" and "wild goats" and such *G*
