Usually, if I have a not-yet-published book on hold at the library, it'll be a month or two before they actually acquire the book and its status changes from "On order" to "In transit" to "On hold" for me in my local branch.
I put the new Harry Potter book on hold back in April and was number 390-something in line for it. (I'm down to 382, now). So today I go and look at my holds list...
They've got Half-Blood Prince listed as already In Transit. (All 400-some copies of it that the library had, last time I checked, marked On Order.) Meaning the library actually got books in before the official release date, let alone earlier than two months after it.
Thus, the possibility of the world falling apart.
