"I'm coming out of my cage
And I've been doing just fine
Gotta gotta be down
Because I want it all
It started out with a kiss
How did it end up like this
It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss."

He hadn't been able to help it. Gilbert grinned, and glaring truths had disappeared into nothing, leaving only one fact. He wanted to make Gilbert grin like that all the time, that true grin, not the smirk or the mischievous smile or any of that, the one that meant Gilbert was actually happy being himself and with Matt--he just wanted Gilbert so much. Gilbert made Matt so happy, so very happy, even when he was annoying, and would there be a point to holding it all inside, couldn't he take a chance?

So he closed the distance between them, lips pressing softly against Gilbert's own and he felt the lack of response. He pulled back shyly, hands fisted at his sides and Gilbert just looked at him with so much shock. Then the nervous laughter started and Matt went to stone.

"B-Birdie what are you doing huh? I mean, I know the urge to kiss me is overwhelming but--"

"Being a fucking idiot I guess." Matt took a few steps back, "Just being an idiot." He turned and started walking away. Stupidstupidstupid. He didn't pay attention to Gilbert calling him. He didn't chase after him, so there was no point in caring. He'd fucked up again, like always. He was just good at that, he guessed, pushing his hair back.

His perch on the roof was rather precarious, but he seemed not to notice, buried in his book, letting the banal storyline take over his mind, pushing out the other eager thoughts. A clatter at the edge of the roof caught his attention and he watched two pale hands clutch, tighten, scramble and soon a ball of yellow fluff nestled silver hair popped into few. Matt half-smiled, giving Gilbird a wave before he remembered he didn't want to talk to Gilbert and started making his way down the other side of the roof.

"H-Hey Birdie, don't you run away! Come back here dammit, I need to--argh, I said come back!" His hand was wrenched back and it was only colliding with Gilbert's body that saved him from falling. They laid there on the roof for a moment, wind knocked out of them, before Matt struggled to sit up and get off.

"Did I say you could go anywhere Matt?" His hand was firmly tucked in Gilbert's and Gil's other was holding his hip in place. It was about this moment that he realized who he was sitting on (the guy he kissed) and how (straddling, in the worst possible way). This of course, only made him struggle harder.

"Did I say you had a say in the matter?" Matt tried to tug his hand away but it only made Gilbert tug back harder, smirking the whole time, and what the hell was so fucking funny?

"Nope, but you don't get a say."

And with that, Matt was tugged down within a few inches of that smirking face. He froze, fuckfuckfuck, what was going on, he needed to get away, before he pinned Gilbert and kissed him senseless, fuck this wasn't fair, Gil knew how Matt felt--

Then a kiss.

A rough one with tongue, and teeth, and Matt's hands and arms pressed against the hot roof and Gil's hands sliding over his back, grabbing at fabric, and the kiss, the kiss--oh god. Matt melted into this moment.

Of course he had to ruin the moment when they pulled away, breathless, by actually asking.

"I...you're not gay though."

"Tch, 'course I'm not. You're not a real guy."

"...You know I can punch you right?"

"But you won't. Pansy~"

"Screw you."

"Maybe later."

Rather than get flustered, Matt looked down at Gilbert, all lazily sprawled beneath him, and slid his hands up Gil's arms, leaning over slowly as he finally clasped Gil's hands in his. Then he put all his weight on his arms, pinning the older boy beneath him, leaned in close and whispered against his lips.

"Maybe."

It was completely and utterly worth hearing Gilbert complain about his back later.
