[Pandemic: Out of Hand]

Aug 26, 2010 22:46

It gets out of their hands after a while.

Suddenly they have two new kids across the sea.

One's a stoic little albino who seems to have taken up the mantle in York, once Germany, which was supposed to be a tribute to New York that got a little twisted, because York flat out refused to be call New New York and it was really the first ever case of the country renaming itself. Canada takes a little pride in that but it twists his heart to see the boy really. He reminds him of Prussia with those eyes and hair but Germany with his manner, but he's a whole other person really, bright, smart, funny, but oddly reserved about showing any of it.

The other is a bright vivid girl with shiny red hair and this grin that they swear spreads for miles. Her name is New Manitoba and she seems to occupy a stretch of space that was once part of France, Spain and Italy. It's mostly the coastline at this point, but she's working her way inward in the most astonishing display of empirical tendencies yet. America cut her off about halfway down the Italian peninsula and she seems almost content with what she has, but they know to keep an eye on her. Canada notes her utter lack of stray hairs and wonders if they'll come with more land in Italy.

Canada turns to America with utter exasperation. Their children are stretching without measure nowadays.

"Why did we want them again?"

"Because it was lonely."

"...Right...and it was."

Then New Alberta tackled New Maine and York and New Manitoba watch in this utterly bemused way that reminds Canada of the Bad Friends Trio, only not, because York is not Prussia and New Manitoba is not Spain. New Manitoba is draping over York in a fashion that really reminds America of North Italy and Germany, but they aren't either one of those.

Eventually they'll remember to stop comparing them. Eventually.
