The land of Skyrim

So far I've clocked about 11 hours... Completely and utterly exhausted right now, but like an addiction the game beckons to me. Unfortunately, the sister is using the television...!

I went with my aforementioned plan and rolled a female Breton mage, named Kalielle (I just looked at some of the previously used female Breton names and altered it, in this case Lielle--granted, Caliel is a male name, but I have a history of naming female characters male names) Hawke. Because of Dragon Age II. HA! I was going to make it Amell (one of the Breton surnames is Amelion, even), but it's phonetically a little too close to the first name. I'm a little disappointed in the character creator, but I still enjoy switching back and forth between first and third person, although I put on a +30 Magicka hood on her. My "made up backstory" involves her being half-Nord (father) and half-Breton (mother) who lived the simple life on the border between High Rock and Skyrim. Her parents, having married late in life, died early in her teens. She had trouble fitting into the daily Breton life of vying for power and position and instead took to wandering around High Rock doing small jobs. In time she found herself continually unsatisfied with her way of life and instead recalled her father's words about his fatherland. Then an ambush...

Right now I'm leaning towards the Stormcloaks, because when it comes to fantasy stories I tend to have a fondness for the rebels. But, I'm not really sure yet who they're fighting against, though I do know I dislike the Imperials dictating certain things like religion. But that's real life me coming in again...

At the moment I recently finished the business in Whiterun, and have a TON of sidequests to do, which I probably will! I'm loving the fact that dungeons/caves/whatever are marked as "cleared" once you do the goodstuff (I suppose pick up all the good loot and whatnot?). I'm pretty disappointed in companion depth (read: none) but hopefully that will be amended in the future...perhaps...?

The game is pretty, even on the console (and once I get this PC built I will probably pick up a second copy). I always thought Bethesda's Fallout releases were quite the sight despite featuring bleak and desolate wastelands, and Skyrim takes the cake (so far!). I'm disappointed in the rock textures, which look almost exactly like Fallout's, but other than that I'm constantly very pleased. Aaaand I just read this and I think it's true! I was fighting a sabre cat or whatever and kept "falling" into the map (panicking lol). I'll uninstall it...

I'm really overwhelmed by a lot of things, but as of now I'm pretty sure my initial playstyle is set. For ever six levels I increase Magicka 3 times, Stamina twice, and Health once. Most likely I'll be focusing on Conjuration, Alteration, Restoration, Block, and Sneak (combat wise), with side skills of One-Handed, Destruction, Light Armor (I wore the Stormcloak Cuirass for the longest time), and maybe Illusion and Archery. I usually keep a shield in the left hand and a spell in the right, and actually use Bound Sword instead of an actual sword (thusly leveling Conjuration and One-Handed at the same time!). Of course, I start out with an Alteration spell (Stoneflesh currently), then Bound Sword. I only "FUS" so far, but in time...

The method of leveling up in this game is pretty bad for me, since I always try to make each situation result in maximum everything. I'll admit I nearly drowned my character and stepped on this trap over and over again so that I could use healing spells to level up Restoration to 30 so I could have the 25% increase in Magicka regeneration, and noticing that Sneak increases even if you walk in circles near enemies... Yes. It's pretty clear what skills I enjoy, though.

Anyways, I love the game so far!

Anyone else disappointed in the map? I was hoping for something more fabric-like. :(

Need a Skyrim icon...

Good deals popping up for computer stuff... So many hard decisions! Right now I'm looking at a nice case...
