Gambrill at Frederick, MD

Well, it was my first time mountain biking in what I considered a hardcore trail to ride. I was worried about it all week, but after doing it, I say learned a lot about myself and what is capable on bicycle. I was tense the whole time riding and ended the day with a stiff neck, no cuts, and a sense of accomplishment. Gambrill is a rocky and hilly trail that is also manageable if you don't let fear get the best of you. A little bit of fear will keep you alert and help you make quick decisions. Speed can sometimes be your friend on a bike because it creates more stability for the rider. That's something I also learned from motorcycle class. The trail appeared easier for the more experienced cyclist and a challenge for the less experienced like myself. Not sure I want to go through the experience again, but it was fun in a twisted sort of way. The hardest part about it was riding uphill on jagged rocks. I have to admit that I had to get off my saddle and hike my bike up the hills many of times. As I pushed up these hills, I was getting winded like I was a heavy smoker. Possibly, I was having allergies that was preventing me from getting good oxygen...I did sneeze several times. Maybe, I'll try this ride again one day, but for now I will pass and opt for less technical trails. However, I can say I did it once. I attached a picture of me in action, but on a part of the trail that was not too technical. Notice I gave a little scowl for the camera.
