My daughter the retconner

Kid A has a well-developed ability to retcon her situation. (Retcon - "retroactive continuity").

We went to the library story time. She had a good time. She picked out a couple of books, and read one. I put the other one back while she was reading because I didn't really want her to read it. She asked about it, but let it go. We went to check out the book. Our library is now computerized, which is kind of nice, but I'm not familiar with the system, so when I realized that I don't have a library card in my wallet, I flailed around a bit trying to figure out if I could do something at the terminal to check out the book, or if I needed to talk to a person to get a new library card. While doing this, Kid A ran off to the back of the library. I found her easily enough, but as punishment, I told her we weren't going to get the book.

So not only is she sad because she's being punished (completely understandable), she also says she wishes we hadn't gone to the library because she didn't like it at all and she wishes the library wasn't there. She didn't like story time. None of this was true five minutes earlier, of course.

We had a similar experience with Maker Faire last week. We parked a ways away, and after the walk there and lots of walking around *at* the Fair, the walk back to the car made her overtired. It wasn't until almost a week later that she'd admit to me that she enjoyed going, even if the walk back was too long.
