Rainy Day Blues

Dec 02, 2004 22:14

This morning I received what must've been about 5 messages rejoicing because of the suspension of classes. (Is "suspension" the appropriate word? Hmm.. I don't know.) Anyway.. While I was really happy that there weren't any classes (I still had two unfinished projects that were due today), I couldn't help but wish that classes were suspended for another reason. Of course, I knew that that thought was ridiculous because storms are (almost) always the reason for the suspension of classes. (Huh? Ang labo nun ah..) But that's beside the point because what I'm trying to say here is that while most of us are rejoicing at the extended weekend we have, people who aren't as fortunate as us are losing their homes, their loved ones, and even their lives while we watch TV, surf the net or whatever in our warm homes. What makes things sadder is that all of these deaths could've been prevented, or could've been lessened significantly. People say that the lack of trees contribute A LOT to the excessive flooding we have. Illegal logging is, well, illegal (no duh), but it is still present. (Sa bagay, a lot of illegal things are still being done..) I've heard of stories where the illegal loggers and the local government are actually cahoots in a scheme to actually generate more income for themselves. The local gov. allows the illegal loggers to log (illegally, of course), and in turn, they get a part of the loggers' income. In the end, I guess a big part of this is our own doing. It's so sad.

Okay, so you, dear reader (if there's any..), might be wondering why I'm bitching like this. It's not just because of the frustration I feel when I see the news, when I hear about the 500+ death toll, or when I hear about the people in evacuation centers. I've been in a terribly bad mood lately (well, since this morning) because my dad's volunteered to help distribute relief goods to people in Nueva Ecija (his area's there kasi). I KNOW he's doing the RIGHT thing. He's doing what should be done, right? But... I guess I'm just so afraid for him, for his safety. Whenever I see a bus being overturned by the flood or whatever, I feel a twinge of anxiety in the pit of my stomach, and I end up being worried sick about him. And he's wondering why I can't eat. He'll leave for Nueva Ecija early this morning.

*Sigh. Maybe I'm being too melodramatic. Oh, well... Brooding won't get me anywhere..

So... On a lighter note, my week wasn't as bad as you might think. The Saturday training, the "slumber party" at my lola's house, and other things made my week a happy one. But I guess what made my week really..um.. nice (? - no apt word for now) was a text message from Anna I received just last night. I was happy, no, elated when I found out I was part of the IDeA2 contingent. Call me shallow, but I seriously didn't think I'd get in. I got Alyza for my pardner. Yipee!! I guess that was my high for this week. :)

I'm sick. No, really, I am. I've got the flu, I think. AND I'VE LOST MY VOICE!! Oh, well.. :D

Oh yeah, lastly, my family just said that my elf (for the English junk art thing) looked like a tiyanak. Its head IS too big. My dad said it looked like a hydrocephalic dog. How sad. But I DO see why they say my elf doesn't look exactly like one. Hahahaha. :))

I'm sorry for this long, bitchy, disoriented entry. I'd be shocked if you reached this far. 'Till next time!

*Oh yeah, I have Gica's song stuck in my head! Hahahaha. :D
I wanna be an Eskimo,
Eskimo, Eskimo
I wanna be an Eskimo,
Es-es-ki-ki-mo!
