It was either the back-to-back parades in over 90 degree heat or the emotional upheaval of prepping Dad for his move into an assisted living facility that had me struggling to lift my head from the pillow yesterday. Thankfully a few early morning text messages and a couple of phone calls allowed me to lay back down, blow off the Bexley parade and indulge in sleeping until noon (something that, starting next weekend, I will be able to do all the time). Not that I want to sleep until noon every weekend. I just want the option to be available to me once again.
Thankfully, Alex managed to motivate me and we headed out to outfit Dad with a brand new wardrobe for his move. Whether Dad knows or cares, he will be the best dressed resident at Summerville. JCPenney was having an awesome sale on mens Cubavera, Havanera, and Havana Shirts. He wasn't very excited when I brought them home but I really didn't expect him to be. I can only imagine how hard it is to move out of the home he has known for 39 years and I am doing everything I know how to do to make it a smooth, worry free transition for him. He is in remarkably good health and spirits for someone who was given a death sentence 4½ years ago and I'm crossing my fingers that once he's situated, the social aspects of community living will add a few more years onto that.
It's all happening so fast that I'm convinced I will go into decompression mode sometime Sunday afternoon. I hope it doesn't happen before that because I have campaign mailings and catering obligations to meet this week.
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep
sleep,
beginnings,
aging,
exhaustion,
parades,
daddy
