What a weekend!

Last week, my parents and Kimberly's parents drove down from Utah to be here for Bryce's baptism, which took place last saturday. We had a great weekend, with lots of time spent talking to my parents and parents-in-law, catching up on things that we've all been doing since we saw them last. We also had a lot of really good food, and I'm afraid I'm going to be paying for it for the next little while.

I now have two children that have been baptized. Two! That means I'm old enough to have two children that are at least eight years of age. Does that make me feel old? Not really. :) I just realize how much time has really gone by.

The service was very nice; there were five other children baptized on the same day. One of the traditions in our particular stake is that the father/brother of each baptismal candidate go before the congregation and tell them why they think that the candidate will make a valuable member of the church. I know that Bryce will be a valuable member of the church because he has a good mind, he learns quickly, and he has a strong desire to do what's right.

How do I feel about all of this? I am very proud of my son for his decision to be baptized. I am also proud to see how much he has grown and learned in the eight years since he was born. To be honest, I feel humbled that I was given the opportunity to participate. I, a man who is prone to impatience, frustration, and a preference for 'just being left alone', was given the sacred opportunity to baptize my own son. I hope I can use this event to help me review where my life priorities truly should be.

Both sets of parents left to drive back to Utah this morning. I was sad to see them go, because it was so nice to have them in our home for the weekend (even though Kimberly and I ended up sleeping on an inflatable mattress out in the garage).
