I love plain omelets. Evan, beloved though he is, has been trying to steal my enjoyment from me through semantical argument! He insists that plain omelets do not exist.
Evan's argument:
Omelet= An egg cooked with something in it. This can be cheese, ham, mushrooms... etc.
Fried Egg= A omelet with nothing in it, other than milk and some pepper.
Scrambled egg= The same thing as an omelet. The scrambling process is what occurs before it is poured into the pan.
My argument:
Omelet= Any egg that has been lightly whisked together with milk (or water, or nothing) before being cooked into a more or less undisturbed "pancake" of egg. Can contain additional ingredients or not.
Fried egg= An egg that is just dumped into a pan with butter, without the whisking process. These can be sunnyside up or sunnyside down.
Scrambled eggs= Omelets that have, through vigorous beating, been turned into a mushy and globby mess within the pan itself.
Opinions?
Who's right here?
Anyone?
