The start of a long weekend

It's a dreary day in Londontown......oh, wait.....I mean, Yigo, Guam. It's been incredibly windy (35mph +) and torrential rain showers every little bit. Today was the day we were to take the Jungle River Boat Cruise....and at 7.45am this morning, it was raining so bad that I was pretty convinced that we wouldn't be going on any river boat. We met over at the Arts & Crafts Center, and amazingly enough, it was still on, so we boarded the bus and on our way. Once we get there, it was only sprinkling and the wind wasn't so bad, but the river was kinda high, and a little choppy. We boarded the boat, and after about 3 minutes we stopped at a little place to use the restrooms and get some punch or ice tea. Since we were stopped, the guides decided to go ahead and do the 'land' portion of our tour first. We got to see a demonstration of the weaving of some leaf....I'm drawing a complete blank on the name right now. We saw a bowl, a basket, hat, grass skirt (made from the bark of the hibiscus tree) and a fan. These items were all free, but we had to play Rock, Paper Scissors in order to get one. We played as a big group (I guess there was around 25 of us, including kids), then out of that group....anyone that didn't match the demonstrator, got the chance to play against another in our group for one of the items. The kids got to go first, then I was one of the first adults to play. I couldn't believe it....I won! I picked a fan. :) Then, the guy demonstrated how to start fire with the hibiscus tree....very cool! After that, we were back on the boat, and touring the river. During our time on the boat, the guy that demostrated the weaving and fire, made all kinds of cool things with the leaves he brought along.....a fish on a string, pinwheels, headbands (and I got one of those), and a flower. It was cool to see the area, but there wasn't alot to see really. Since it was raining so badly, the water was brownish red, so we couldn't see much there either. All in all, it wasn't a bad trip and it was nice to get out in the morning.....and while we were there the weather pretty much cooperated, so we didn't get too wet, and it wasn't too windy. On the way back, we stopped by Jeff's Pirate's Cove for lunch. I had a Grilled Cheddar Cheese Sandwich, but it wasn't that great...and in my opinion, not worth $7. It was nice to have lunch with Emie and her family, and our driver, Ray.

When we got back home, our power was out! Paul hooked up the generator so we could run the fridge for a while. Without power we couldn't do anything really, so we discussed his story....and my character. Then we began working on another character I will be playing eventually. I made a brand new charcter, and I'll be plugging her stats and skills into the computer here pretty soon.

I'll include some pictures from our trip today in a later post.
