nostalgia: Bad Video Board

Aug 08, 2008 16:44

Every once in a while I'll see something that reminds me of the golden, halcyon days of youth, when I regularly took part in the noble task of screening incredibly shitty movies to a room of drunk, stoned undergraduate students.

At Reed, Bad Video Board was technically Celeste's deal; I was in charge of Kool Video Board, and I aimed to culturally indoctrinate the befuddled masses into a true love of cinema (and watch movies I was curious about without having to pay for them... hmmm, I have managed to keep that up pretty well!) But Bad Video Board was all about the fun and the mockery. I miss the hell out of it. I remember the screams of anguish that greeted THE SADIST with a tear in my eye, and I will always feel kindly about the terror and confusion of trying to watch MAD MAX: BEYOND THUNDERDOME while tripping on some very strong mushrooms. (Not that I consider THUNDERDOME a bad movie... it's in that realm of "Hey, I really love it and it has sentimental value... and hey, Auntie Entity is my fashion icon!")

Also there are a lot of extremely pants movies that I want to inflict on people, and I can't really determine the right context... if I had a larger apartment, I'd just do it at my home, and maybe lock the doors so people couldn't escape. I'm talking about hardcore stinkers (but with a certain curiosity factor) like SUPERMAN III. BREAKIN 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO. SOLARBABIES (co-starring Adrian Pasdar)! You know what I'm talking about!

I I have to find a place in town to begin this again. I just don't even know where to start. Any suggestions?
