BSG bye-bye after season 4

Well, it's official - Season 4 will be the last one for Battlestar Galactica.

I am actually fairly happy with that decision - I'd rather the show didn't drag on and on, and have eighty dozen filler and "very special" episodes. Look to Babylon 5 - a lean, mean, plot- and character-driven machine with all the bleak realpolitik and darkness of the spirit (where even redemption isn't the end of the line) which I like in my science fiction TV. That was five seasons long, and meant (mostly) to be that way. Even though I don't like Season 5 of B5 very much, it's because of the way that Captain Sheridan and Delenn's characters changed - but it all made sense both in terms of the plot and of their characters; ditto Ivanova and Marcus; and there was plenty of awesomeness dealing with Mollari (oh Londo!) and G'Kar's (oh G'Kar!) character development and the bitterly ironic political weirdness back on Earth. Almost no irrelevant episodes; almost no fluff episodes; almost surgical precision. Maybe four bad episodes in five seasons.

BSG has had about four not-so-good episodes in three years. That's a pretty good proportion. And we will have to have a big fat drunken Tigh grieving party when it comes to the end. Who's in?

Toasterlover forever. Yes. I plan to watch the whole series again, from the miniseries, before BSG returns in ... ugh... January.

yawp, battlestar galactica, geekery
