If you can get through the R.Kelly video you're a stronger person than I am... I'd like to burn down his house and destroy every single thing he owns and then kill all his pets and hit his mother in the face with a shovel. Or, alternately, just cut off his dick and then let him bleed to death while an entire class of ninth-grade girls urinates on him.
I hope I've got the time next week!... and as much fun as you and I and Suzie would have had, wrecking Wm's place while he's out (hee!) it's a good thing in the end, because I need to write a bunch this weekend, and also Firefly came in at the library, with the worst timing ever - so I have 22 hour-long episodes of television to attempt to get through, while simultaneously trying to finish the novel. I am not optimistic about getting through all of Firefly; I think I'm going to end up having to rent it later in the summer. Then again, it might totally rub me the wrong way, and then I don't have to watch it at all!
To be honest, I am torn between the "it's supposed to be horrifically (unintentionally) funny shit" factor and the "but he's a revolting child rapist and it makes me ill that people still support him and buy his albums and call any persecution of him 'racist' when he's on tape urinating on barely-pubescent girls" factor. At least it's Netflix, and I wouldn't actually be putting any money in his evil pockets...but...
Wm actually expressed some interest in seeing it with us, so POO! 'Twould have been bitchin'. And I've heard very mixed reviews on Firefly - I've never seen it, but I have friends who love it, and friends who find it utterly loathsome. The latter category tend to be older people whose opinions I respect more (I love sonatine, who is a Firely fanatic, and all, but she also has been known to love Tori Amos and Dave Matthews Band, so I am not optimistic about her choices in entertainment), so I wouldn't get my hopes up too high. Both William and violetisblue, my favourite lesbian lawyer of all time, hated hated hated it, if that tells you
Yes, but William also hates Joy Division (as do you, if I recall correctly?), so I will lovingly take his opinions with a grain of salt. :)
About 95% of all the things I love, the people who I like and admire most think is absolute bollocks, so... I'm pretty used to it now and I try not to impose what I like on others. I'm surprised that he'd be interested in watching LIZA - most non-complete-faggots absolutely loathe her or are confused/frightened by her (and most complete faggots under the age of 40 do too, having moved onto more contemporary gay icons like Paris and Tyra), so, go figure. I try to keep my love of Liza well concealed (though not as well concealed as my undying love for Barbra).
I know, but still, the fact that the friends I have who go ga-ga for Firefly also love Dave Matthews Band and knitting is disquieting. Re Wm, he is kinda faggy for a mostly-straight boy, though... I think I mentioned that Leland's first mention of him was "You're hanging out with that gay-looking guy now," right? Which, given Leelee's penchant for making out with hirsute Mediterranean men, is hilarious, but still...
(Note to Wm if he's reading this: I call you faggy with love)
...And hang on, Paris fucking Hilton is a gay icon now? She's not even an interesting trainwreck, just trashy and stupid and a perfect example of all that is wrong with American celebrity culture. If that's what it takes to be a gay icon now, I'm so glad I'm not a gay man.
Queuing that shit right now! Maybe we can have Liza Night @ Wm's after all...

(This is my way of saying: Do not, muthafucka.)
