great leap forward

I hope that at some point in my life of the future I can make an intensive study of 20th Century Chinese history. There's some seriously bizarre and fucked-up shit going on there... and at this point, I know next to nothing about it.

In fact, I'm pretty crap at most history in general, except for early 19th century Paris and Naples... and Weimar Berlin and the rise of Hitler... basically, just the stuff I've studied to write the books. I think I could easily become a history junkie - emphasis on 19th and 20th century China, Korea, and Japan, 19th Century United States, 17th and 18th century sub-Saharan Africa... and of course, my old pal, the rise of Bolshevism and the crushing reign of Joseph Stalin.

It's extremely annoying to think that I haven't learned almost anything about any of this stuff. But nooooo I was too busy studying up on modern art movements from 1900-1960, guitar pedals, metonymy, Beatle wives, the films of Ed Wood, psychopharmacology and cerebral physiology, and videos directed by Godley & Creme. Ah well... maybe it's not too late.
