QUESTIONS:
1. How do you pronounce your name? Is it really just "Turbolizard"?
2. Where does that name COME from?

I was born Theodore Jonathan Hommel in Mountain View, California, Leap Year Day, February 29, 1968, a 5th generation Northern Californian.

why did you change it to terbolizard? And how come it isn't spelled Turbolizard?

TERBO is an early 90s modem protocol. And the 'e' goes with Ted. I used to be a techno musician/dj called 'Terbo Ted' before I legally changed my name to Theodore Terbolizard.

Well, your history as a techno DJ is enough to warrant your election in my eyes...and I'm a democrat.

In 1992, I was the first person ever to DJ at the Burning Man Festival, to an empty playa on a friday afternoon. I've DJ'd on four continents, put out six CDs of electronic music as 'Terbo Ted' and released a handful of mostly white-label vinyl tracks. In the late 90s I coined a new music genre called 'speedbass' which was sort of a blipverty, mp3-oriented hardcore, similar to gabber and drum and bass; speedbass.net is still following this movement, operating out of France.

Wow...I used to spin trip hop years ago and am currently a rabid breakcore fan. The fact that a congressional candidate actually spun speedbass is just fantastic.

Do your younger voters know about this?

If not...it might lure that demographic to the polls.

>Do your younger voters know about this?

well, these sort of efforts here help spread that message. it is listed on my campaign website in my bio, that i've been an artist and musician and used to DJ.

mostly, i've been spending a lot of time wooing the silverhaired seniors, reaching out to the folks in the establishment, folks who never have been known to go online; talking to newspaper editors, meeting with established political organizations.

this is more my natural constituency right here though. anime-loving photoshop users.

I keep meaning to make a youtube video that tells this story, I'll get to it soon.

The name change was in honor of my daughter being born, her mother and I wanted to give her a clan name like 'Laughing Bear' or 'Running Eagle'

junebug80 January 31 2008, 13:12:55 UTC
so... you all changed your last name to terbolizard as a clan name for her then?

What did you name her? like as a first name?

As a matter of policy I don't publicly involve my child's name or image in my campaign efforts, it's something the two of us agreed to. She is extremely cautious of her privacy online, having grown up with the internet from birth. Some politicians do all kinds of photoshoots with their kids, but we reject that notion. I'm the one running for office, not my child.

ok i totally agree with that. But, I'm still curious as to why you put the Lizard part in your last name.
