I am in Spain!

trouble4hire and I arrived safely in Spain via Aer Lingus, with only the small, requisite amount of snickering. I kind of love that airline now, cos they gave me beef stew for dinner and this for breakfast:

From Barcelona
Black pudding, white pudding, two bangers and ham, plus a hash brown and stewed tomato. Essentially: meat, meat and meat, laying on top of some meat. Awwyeah, baby.

We met Trouble's mum without a hitch, despite the fact that her plane was delayed two hours. She was supposed to show up far before us; instead, she turned up at quite the same time. We're staying in the fabulous Hotel Peninsular, which used to be a monastery. The rooms are fairly basic, but the huge thick stone walls ensure that 1. we are not bothered by city noise, and 2. we are safe from pirate attacks, which have historically been a major problem in Barcelona.

First thing off, we went for a wander. We quickly got a bit tired of the touristy streets, so we ducked onto a back street and found...

From Barcelona
A chunk of the Roman wall. Just, you know, hanging out. There are shops in the other side. In America, a structure more than 2,000 years old would warrant a tourist centre all its own. In Barcelona, it hardly rates a plaque.

On La Rambla, the main tourist drag, next to the living statues and buskers: Live chickens.Next stall over: total turtles and tortoises.
