Jude and I found what would appear to be a
Rhinoceros Beetle while walking home from school (The image in that link is the spitting image of the one we found). Now, I'm pretty sure beetles of the scarab family aren't generally native to the British Isles, so we popped him in Jude's pencil case and bought him home to save him freezing to death or getting run over by a car (which he very nearly did before we got him). He's now in an empty fish tank with a jamjar lid of water, some leaves and half a banana.
Apparently, these things can be kept as pets, but I wouldn't have the faintest clue how to do that, so I think if he survives the night, I might see if I can find a local bug expert and maybe give him to a zoo or something.
What a fucking wierd thing to happen though.
