Less than a week ago, James Price, age 46, parent of an 11-year-old, was bicycling when a man driving a white car over 60mph and texting, hit him and ran, on Penn Avenue in Point Breeze. Price was killed.
Last night another cyclist was hit on Penn Avenue in Point Breeze; the cyclist is currently in critical condition and may not make it.
The cities of Pittsburgh and Wilkinsburg need to enact some traffic-calming measures on this road. It is a nightmare. I used to ride it occasionally; I won't ride it anymore and I'm considering keeping my car off of it as well.
Please, please, please, if you are driving a car, obey the speed limit, stop signs and red lights, and put your cell phone away. The consequences of a moment's distraction are pretty awful.
