Comic Fiesta 2011 + Happy New Year!

Jan 01, 2012 23:46

Again, haven't been updating - that's 'cos I'm a lazy ass xD Does anyone even read this journal? I seriously need to make some LJ friends... D8

At any rate, Happy New Year! This is my first post of the year - HUZZAH (I will be there on the 22nd of December, laughing my ass off. Just so you know)!!! Which reminds me, my college should be receiving our A-Levels results in around 20 days and our lecturer estimated that only 60% of us are gonna pass. That means out of every ten, four of us are going down - THIS IS NOT GOOD!!!  DDD8

Ah, ah, this is not good for my heart either; let's move on to happier things, shall we? I am determined to enjoy the little time I potential have left before I face the heavy metal music. What happier things, you may ask? Well, what do you say to...

A COMIC FIESTA 2011 REPORT?!?!
Hellz yeah, I've been wanting to do this ever since the end of the con - but like I said, I'm a lazy piece of sh!t :D But I want to record down everything I remember, so I will have some nice memories to look back on in the future.

Before I proceed, I would first like to state clearly that I am merely an attendee of Comic Fiesta 2011 and not a committee member of any sort. As such, the events and situations that will be described will be purely based on my experience there as best as I can recall them which may differ from actuality and hence may or may not be accurate. I therefore have no liability for any mistake on my part of incorrect or inaccurate information. All pictures shown in the following entry were taken by me. If you recognise your picture and want it removed for any reason, please contact me by PM.

That made me feel smart :D

Alright, let's start with -

DAY 1

This year, the convention was being held in KLCC - which is uber convenient for me. It was my second time attending the con - the first was in 2008. For the first day, I planned to wear my yukata. The complication this year is that KLCC's security management were not informed of the convention, so cosplayers and such had to be careful to be seen or there may be trouble (especially if you're carrying a weapon prop, like a katana - kinda difficult to explain that to a security guard who probably has never even heard on anime/manga before). Hence, I got dressed up in normal clothing and had all my yukata essentials (yukata, tabi, obi and geta) in my bag; intending to change into them once I was safely in the convention. Jean, also planning to wear her yukata, did the same.

Met Jeanette at the LRT along with her friend, Akira. Jean came late as usual D:  And we hopped on and prepared ourselves for a half hour on the train. There were several other con-goers with us on the train, a few carried props (one girl had a bokken). Everyone was looking real sleepy since it was a little early xD

We got to Suria KLCC and had to trek through this crazy long corridor that resembled those underground subway tunnels you see in movies - except this one was much wider and was meant for people to walk through and not for the railway. At the end of this crazy-long tunnel was a car park that was undergoing construction work. It was quite dusty but we didn't have a choice. We went through the car park and into the lower ground level of the Convention Centre itself. Up the escalator and we were at the main corridor. We passed the launch of the iPhone 4S in Hall 1 along the way - there was already a queue there! Hahaha ^^

Got into Hall 4, which was the place for taking cosplayer photos and buying/claiming tickets while waiting for the actual hall of the convention (Hall 5) to open. And BOY, was the crowd MASSIVE. And the event hadn't even started yet!!!

The iPhone 4S queue looked like a joke compared to this (even Apple could do nothing in the face of otaku passion).

Fortunately for me and my pals, we had bought pre-booked tickets for both days, so we had a shorter queue (think those privileged customer lines you see at some places where certain customers get priority). As such, we got our tickets and then... Had nothing to do except sit around and go through our door gift bag while waiting for Hall 5 to open.

Jeanette, before I helped her put on those butterfly tattoos on her face. If you had seen us from a certain angle while I was pressing the tattoos against her cheek to let the water do it's magic, you would have thought we were... xDDD I guess we gave a lot of wrong impressions that day?

And then I found Nadirah!!! <3<3<3

But she was kinda camera-shy that day. She cosplayed as America from Hetalia - and her wig even had that curly thing America has in his hair!!! Ah, Hetalia... Parodying world history so you can never keep a straight face in history class ever again. Please let me say it again - Italy is just too adorable~!

First cosplay picture! Tidus from Final Fantasy 10. The catgirl? I have no idea actually... ^^; The playcard she's holding reads 'Ohayo gozaimasu' which translates into 'Good morning'. Just in case you didn't know.

And so we waited... AND THEN THEY FINALLY OPENED THE HALL!!! 8D Well, I don't have pictures of the hall itself since I got so excited I immediately started browsing the artists' booth - there was so much stuff there that was out of this world! The cosplayers were out of this world - it was like entering a whole new dimension! It was like heaven!!! Well, not really... but you get the point. Or do you?

The artists had lots of stuff and natural, I bought some goodies! And after that, the sponsor booths were fantastic, too! It was hard not to go overboard, but I only brought my budjeted amount of money and I was more careful about what I spent on this time though, so overall I think I got some pretty good stuff at OK prices. Pictures of my total loot over the two days will be shown tomorrow.

There was a cafeteria there, which charged insane prices (RM4+ for a packet of sanwiches and RM2+ for a can of soda! Ouch!) but ti was either eat there or go all way back to KLCC for lunch. After buying our food, Jean and I changed into our yukatas in the nearby ladies' room (took like an hour - Jean was helping me with the arrangement of my obi and I with her's plus she wanted me to pin her yukata in place in certain areas to secure it). After that, Akira told Jean that we could leave our bags in Hall 4 so we wouldn't have to lug them around. So, hearing that, we exited the hall.

Big mistake.

KLCC's management had taken it upon themselves to manage the crowd control - except their idea of crowd control was to prevent people from entering the halls and pushing everyone outside, only letting people inside in batched or a dozen or so every 10-15 minutes. Considering the crowd size, this method was absolutely ridiculous! There were hundreds of people stuck outside, lining up to come in but the security just wouldn't budge. What's worse for Jean and I was that we merely wanted to go to Hall 4 which was right next door. But the security wouldn't allows us and we were forced to go outside to join the queue back in just to get into Hall 4. Remeber, both Jean and I were wearing yukatas and we both had our normal clothes underneath so it was especially hot and uncomfartable. I repeat, again, that it was absoluetly ridiculous. Hundreds of people stranded outside in the sweltering heat of our Malaysian afternoon, most of us with costumes and makeup on and carrying bulky props.

It was not the fault of Comic Fiesta's committee, but of KLCC's security. The way they dealt with crowd was rather inexperienced and lacked refinement. Just because we're attending an ACG convention and are dressed up in costume doesn't mean we're kids - we're mature human beings who know our rights and we know that we had no right to be treated in such a manner. It is disappointing that the security for KLCC, such an important establishment especially for our tourism, handled the situation so poorly. Fortunately, the committee of CF assumed responsibility of the crowd control on Day 2 - which was MUCH better.

At any rate, took some photos and ate our sandwiches while waiting outside.

Kikyo and Kagome from Inuaysha! And pretty well done, at that! :D It lifted my sagging spirits a little.

And so, after almost another hour of waiting - we finally got in. W e went to Hall 4 - only to discover that there were no lockers and that all you had to keep your bag was on the floor, where anybody could just snag it. No way, sucker. I thought, I'd rather lug it with me no matter how heavy it is than risk it getting stolen. So lugged it I did, back to Hall 5 and back into the convention - meaning that we waited all that while for nothing and just wasted our time. ]<

Since I'd seen most of all there was to see, I started some serious camera-spamming. >8D

Hibari and Dino from Katekyou Hitman Reborn! Lots of Hibaris there this year, even TYL ones!

Then, I found the whole KHR cosplay group! 8DDD It was kinda intimidated (lol, what was I intimidated by, anyway?) when asking for their picture. I went up to Lambo and was like "Erm... Excuse me, but can I have a picture of all of you together?" (it is an offcial and sacred rule of Comic Fiesta to ask for a cosplayer's permission before taking their mugshot since some of them may not want their photos taken and as human beings, their privacy is respected. So yes, I went through the same process of asking for permission for all of the cosplay photos I took).

He was a nice guy, he went "Okay, sure!" andgathered everyone together like so. Next thing you know, loads of other photographers came swarming in with their DSLRs (unofficially, once a cosplayer is posing for a shot, usually other photographers are welcome to chip in and take a photo of them, too. If you ever do this, just be sure to thank the cosplayer with a nod of your head - not mandatory, but it's much better than just snapping a stranger's picture and walking away, no?). xD

I is happy :D <3 KHR!

Deidara of the Akatsuki from Naruto. Man, I used to love that character... Still kinda do.

Props from some of the artists' booths. Elaborate dolls used as decoration - strictly not for sale. I think they must be really expensive, just look at them! Barbie ain't got nothing on these eye candies!

Chain-breaker Squall!!!

Squall Leonheart from Final Fantasy VIII. My flash ruined the shot, stupid camera D:

Random lolita? Haha there are quite which I took even though I wasn't sure which fandom they came from, so forgive me for any ignorance on my part!

Part of the crowd, at around 3pm-ish. Not enough room to swing a punch at anybody without elbowing at least two innocent bystanders xD

Finally, I could actually get fairly close tot he stage area - and this is with help of the incredible zoom function of a camera.

Nyan cat was also present, complete with rainbow poop :D

One of the GIANT sponsor booths had this GIANT poster up to double up as a wall. ALL THAT KHR GOODNESS!!!

And so, because I'm such a fan...

I is happy :D

Vocaloid characters. The one in the middle is the ever so popular Miku.

Saber from Fate/Stay Night.

The ones without a comment henceforth will mean that I have no idea who the character is xD Like this one, I have no clue.

I am hazarding a guess at one of the Vocaloid twins?

DEFINITELY the Vocaloid twins!

Luffy from One Piece. He may not have been a great cosplayer, but he acted so much like Luffy! When I asked him for his picture, he put on Luffy's surprise expression and pointed at himself. When I nodded, he did Luffy's grin and posed. He pulled off the Luffy Smile and the Luffy Bow! Yes, he actually bows to you once you take his picture. xD

Shiro Lolita?

Tsunade, Godaime Hokage from Naruto. Konan of the Aktsuki was with her, but I missed Konan - she went off somewhere else D:

Caught the full InuYasha gang this time :D

Stopped for a short break. Here is Jeanette, complete with yukata and the tattoos I helped her put on. Ain't she pretty? :3

And that's me, looking as retarded as all hell - as usual. That red paper bnad on my left wrist is actually the CF ticket.

Back to picture-spam! It's a Captain from Bleach whose name I do not know but I know starts with 'I'!

Fuuton Shuuriken Rasengan Naruto!

The girl was in her pose, the guy wasn't. xD

Why, hello again, Tidus :D

Someone from the Persona series.

After that picture was taken, the emcees announced that they were going to have the OTP Cosplay Competition soon. I thought it would be interesting so off I went into the crowd before the stage, pretty much dragging Jean with me (sorry about that!). So we sat on the floor. The place we were at was a little to the right and quite far back so we didn't have a very good view. As such, the pictures are quite crappy (thank goodness for zoom lens xD) so I'm not going to post all of them. If you want, you can view them here (starting from page 3): http://s1117.photobucket.com/albums/k591/TenyumeKasumi/Comic%20Fiesta%202011%20-%20Day%201/

But for the sake of being complete aka for my self-satisfaction, here are a few (none of which I recognise D: ).

Apparently Panty and Stocking. They were having a 'competition' between themselves to gauge who was sexier and proceeded to perform some really sexy dances.

When they were done, one of the emcees went "CAMERA MAN!!! Did you get all that?! Did you record everything?! Send me a copy later!"

Didn't catch what fandom these next guys are from, but their performance was very cute - my personal favourite, actually. 8D The guy (the left one) was gaming on his PSP, his girl comes along and wants to spend some good old quality time with each other but he's too busy gaming (a very common problem?). She takes away his PSP - only to have him whip another one out his pocket and continue playing Dora the Explorer. xD

Then she proceeds to sing 'Anything You Can Do' and the guy gets roped in. This is how the guy is tricked into spending time with her after all. xD

In the end, she wins. And promptly sits on him (literally).

At the end of their performance, it looked like the script was for her to drag the guy off-stage. Thing was, he stumbled and ended up falling down because she going too fast. It was clearly not in the script as she freaking out and laughing as she went to see if he was okay. Not in the script, but oh so fitting.

So, next time your boyfriend/male friend/brother/cousin/sister/girlfriend/female friend/heck, anybody discovers that their game consoles are more interesting than you, you could try this. xD

For those unfamiliar with the song, please listen to this!

The next contestants! Again, I know not which fandom, but they are apparently vampires. Oh and a word of warning; major crack ahead!

After the preliminary conversation which included lots of stuff I didn't understand, she asks him."Are we really vampires?" He answers somewhere along these lines "Well, I've got fangs and I drink blood - does that count?" She deliberates for a while, looking at some poster. Then she goes up to him and asks...

"Then why don't we... sparkle?"

And hilarity ensues :D

He's wondering WTF she's talking about and she brandishes the poster at him - which turned out to be featuring Edward Cullen (surprise, surprise). She later spikes his drink with 'The Essence of Edward Cullen' in a (failed) attempt to make him sparkle. All it did was make him choke almsot to death. xD

Next up are characters from an anime about singing. They sang a song together. I'm only putting up one photo on my journal because it turned out the nicest and captured the atmosphere the best in those cramped conditions (the others are always in that Photobucket album should you want to view them).

Unfortunately, the next and last pair were quite forgettable and failed to make much of an impression. All they did was sing a song - no skit whatsoever.

Okay, OTP Competition over - BACK TO PHOTO SPAM!!! 8DDD

OMG SO PWETTY 8DDD

Yuna from FF X.

Yuuki Cross from Vampire Knight (I should really start catching up with the manga) and Hope Estheim from FF XIII (he's reappearing in XII-2!!! HELL YEAAAAH! Pleasepleaseplease somebody upload a full walkthrough on Youtube! I don't have a PS3 so seeing the walkthroughs in video formate are the closest I can get).

Then I got Serah Farron (also from FF XIII) and Hope together!

The rest of the FF XII gang - sans Fang. I never did see her...

Ever since I messed up that shot of Squall a while back, I;d been looking for him hoping to get a better picture - without any luck. But I refused to give up - so hours of stalking and lurking finally paid off when I found him again just as it was about time for me to leave. But I did not find him alone, no. He came with quite a few bonuses...

Dig this :D

Cloud, Squal, Unknown Person and Sephiroth! A four in one bundle!!! xD

And because I couldn't decided which pictures to use since they were all so full of WIN, I am posting them all!!! 8D

What can I say? I have my favourites... :D  No Zidane, though... But he would have been a real chainbreaker among all the monochromatic outfits.  xD

Back on the train on our way home, I showed this KILLER POSE picture to Jean. She looked at it and all she had to say was. "I'm hungry."
Yup, these are the sort of friends I have :D

Continuing...

I kept making to walk away (there were a bunch of other photographers there, too) but they kept changing poses so I just HAD to stay and keep snapping cos I'm a fan like that :D

Cloud vs. Squall! Unknown vs. Sephiroth!

So that is how I finally got that non-flash, nicer shot of Squall :D

The last few snaps...

One of the best Narutos that day 8D

And finally...

Riku from Final Fantasy X!!!

Went home after that xD Before exiting the convention hall, I was going to take off my yukata. Since the ladies' room was stuffed like sardines and I was wearing my normal clothes underneath it anyway, I begam removing my yukata while standing at the side of the corridor. Some people were staring initally - probably thought I was stripping or something XDDD Jean was more ladylike and went to undress in the toilet anyway.

There was a light shower going on when we stepped outside (Yamamoto, anyone?) and made our way back to the LRT station through the carpark and through KLCC - where some cosplayers were taking advantage of the fantabulously sparkly Christmas decorations and taking yet more photos. I was running out of time - heck, my mom was already calling me and demanding to know why I was not on the train yet - so I didn't have time to grab those shots D:

Before heading home, I hid all my purchases (which you will see in the next journal entry) in my bag before showing up at my house and receiving an earful from my parents for both ears for being later than they would have liked. But damn, it was all worth it. :D

And thhere was still one more day to go - DAY 2!!!

cosplay, comic fiesta, picturespam, acg, khr, naruto, klcc, final fantasy
