Morality

Do you ever have one of those classes or days that really gets you thinking?

I just finished my Philosophy class and now I'm starting World Religions and they're really very interesting. I'm debating now on whether I may want to major in Philosophy.

The thing I'm debating the most right now is the question of what is right and what is wrong, and how people know the difference. Which then leads into the question (if you aren't atheist or such) of who does and doesn't go to Heaven or Hell or whether they exist?

Right now I'm of the position that there is no Hell. I think that people are not inherently evil people and that a person is incapable of doing something that they truly think is wrong. I understand that people have done terrible things, but I don't think that any of them genuinely thought they were doing anything wrong or that they thought the good outweighed the bad. Thus, I think that people do "evil" things because of they are ignorant of what they are doing wrong. So, if a person merely does bad things because they don't know any better, is it really there fault and do they deserve to go to Hell for that? Thus can anyone have ever gone to Hell?

If that's so though, does that mean when you go to Heaven, you suddenly know everything you were ignorant of before? Then do you lose all of your individuality and self-identity? And is that any better than eternal oblivion?

Or maybe there is a Hell and you can be sentenced there just because you happen to have made a mistake or did something that you thought was right but was actually wrong.

Let me know your thoughts on the matter, I'd be happy to be convinced otherwise. I hope I didn't offend anyone, if so, let me know.
