a/n: i never realized how awkward hyukjae was until i got a look at all of the little relationships he's got going on. just a small drabble selection dedicated to my uncomfortably suave homeboy ♥

super junior/boa - eunhyuk/boa - g
748w~
eunhyuk thinks his friendship with boa might not be so forced if he weren't so utterly awkward. donghae is slick and full of charisma, siwon's looks alone make him an inviting candidate, and even sungmin, the princess of the '86 group, can carry on a decent conversation with her, but eunhyuk is nothing except a jumble of words and a fling of awkward movements.
heechul is the devil's favorite child and urges boa towards eunhyuk in the middle of an smtown concert, and he finds himself stuttering and giving awkward bows in front of thousands of fans - when he gets home, kyuhyun's already found every fancam version of the incident and has mixed them together to create the ultimate hd video that reaches the emails of every kpop idol eunhyuk has had contact with (and most likely ones that he hasn't, too).
"is there a reason you and boa are so awkward together?" he gets asked during a solo interview a week later, and he chokes on the water he has only just picked up.
"excuse me?"
the interviewer gives him a strange look and eunhyuk dreads the next month of this magazine's edition. "is there a reason you and boa are so awkward around each other? you, in particular?"
"um..." he rubs the back of his neck and shrugs. "not really. i'm just an awkward person in general, i think, and we don't have much in common."
"you guys are both good dancers," and eunhyuk smiles at that.
"she is a good dancer."
"so you're sure it's not because of a past history? something like that?" the interviewer leans in and eunhyuk wonders when it became this type of situation.
"yes," he returns, his face deadpan. "i'm sure it wasn't our past history or anything like that."
leeteuk brings up the incident on kiss the radio a couple of weeks later and eunhyuk doesn't feel like killing his members as much as he does himself. it'd mean more time away from boa and less time making a fool of himself, at least.
they run into each other in the studio hallways, her finishing aiding the newer trainees and him the rap portion on one of the tracks of suju's sixth album. her bag falls from her arm, as do the papers in his hands, and everything flutters together like a magical movie moment - except it isn't really, because his heart isn't pounding in attraction as much as it is in embarrassment.
"sorry," he mumbles, reaching for papers over her arms, and she returns the same, not meeting his gaze.
"i think that's my notebook you're holding," boa says after he grabs a small journal on the floor.
"no, it's mine," he replies, but she reaches for it anyways. eunhyuk looks up at her and she is flipping to the first page, but he shuts it quickly. "it's mine," he says again.
boa glances at him and it is the first time their eyes meet, small and unrecognizable. "i have a journal just like that," she says, and her gaze doesn't tear from him when he flips to the first page and kwon boa is written in thick, black letters.
"sorry," he mumbles and slides it towards her, but when he looks up she isn't looking at him in annoyance - more in, should he say, curiosity. "what?"
"what's in your journal that is so important?"
"hmm?" she is sitting down on the floor now, her bag in her lap with all of the items returned, but it doesn't look like she is going anywhere anytime soon. "it's just a writing journal. lyrics, raps, compositions, stuff like that."
"but?"
"but," he begins again, and it is amazing how she manages to pull the words out of his mouth as if she is picking them herself, "but i don't think they're very good."
"i'm sure they are," and even though it is just a small reassurance, it makes him feel better for some reason.
"not really, but thanks anyways."
she stands up, then, and pulls him up along with her. "i have to go, but i think your writing would be very good." he grins awkwardly, but she isn't done, and there is a faint glow in her cheeks. "and for the record, i think you are a good dancer too." boa smiles and pulls him in for a hug before bouncing away, and this time, eunhyuk finds his heart pounding in attraction more than anything else.
02. interception
super junior/f(x) - eunhyuk/krystal - g
643w~
eunhyuk isn't really sure what his relationship with krystal is. once upon a time him and jessica had a thing as trainees and that was the end of it, and maybe that brings him to her, but he isn't really sure.
krystal's got minho, and eunhyuk's got - well, eunhyuk doesn't have anyone, but it's not like he really minds.
occasionally he will catch her alone and a little session will play out, sometimes her flirting and sometimes him and always the two of them laughing at something that isn't really funny but keeps the conversation going, and eunhyuk doesn't follow it anymore than that.
he's in the studio for kiss the radio one afternoon when a girl comes in, hat pulled over her head and long brown hair swinging back and forth, and eunhyuk's got this oh crap look written on his face because sooyoung's helping him and sooyoung's got this issue with her - "soojung?"
she sits down on the chair next to him and slides the paper from his hands, scanning through it. "yes?"
"you're here?"
"yeah. i didn't have a schedule today so manager asked me to fill in." krystal looks up at him with this strange expression, one eyebrow perfectly arched, and he wishes he wasn't intimidated by a girl five years younger than him. "surely you'd know that, right?"
he stutters at this because surely he'd know that, right? but he didn't because management never tells him anything and it's up to eunhyuk to find out life or death on his own time. "of course," he says instead. "of course i knew that."
"right." krystal leaves him one last longing glance before turning back to the sheets, and eunhyuk is too afraid to ask for them back even though he printed them out himself at the library with his own money.
the show begins fifteen minutes later, when eunhyuk has replenished himself with another handful of script sheets and iced coffee, krystal the same. "welcome-" they both begin, and eunhyuk gives her this funny look before backing away from the microphone. after all, she's a guest, he tells himself, but that isn't really the reason why. "to kiss the radio with your hosts, krystal jung of f(x) and lee eunhyuk of super junior." krystal turns to eunhyuk and leaves him a quick wink before turning back to the mike. "leeteuk oppa couldn't make it today, so i'll be filling in for him with eunhyuk oppa for the show. our first segment," and then she looks at him, awaiting.
eunhyuk scrambles to the microphone and grabs the papers, "will be idol caller, where viewers will vote in an idol to prank call. our selections for today will be," and that is when his thoughts trail off, and he doesn't remember the rest of the radio show after that except krystal's weird laughs and her sudden interest in random things and the way she concentrates so nonchalantly and all of her seems to contradict itself.
"i had fun today," she says while packing up her stuff, and eunhyuk finds himself staring at her hands instead of doing anything productive. "if you ever need someone to fill in again, just call."
"i - i'll do that," he responds. "thanks."
"no problem." krystal smiles at him, hitting him lightly in the shoulder before standing up from the chair.
they end up going in the same direction, cars coincidentally parked right next to each other ("i took amber's because she's out with luna and neither of them will - should - notice") and awkwardly walk to their cars together, occasionally a cough or a sniffle even though neither of them are sick.
"nice to see you again," she says.
"you too," eunhyuk replies.
krystal smiles at him, and he smiles back, and they go home awkwardly stuck together like that because it just works.
03. news to me
super junior/snsd - eunhyuk/seohyun - g
1566w~
it comes as a surprise one random week night - are you busy this weekend? my birthday party is this saturday - and suddenly he is looking for birthday gifts for a woman he never knew past an acquaintance.
kyuhyun refuses to help, as he's going to the same birthday party and wants to have the best gift, and heechul offers stupid ideas that eunhyuk knows will only make him look like a fool in the end. "those top hats they wear in the royal palace, the ones with the octopus on the top," he says, and it scares eunhyuk a little but that he is actually serious, so he goes to minho.
minho, who already had an early birthday lunch with seohyun because he is filming on the day of her party. "i got her two tickets to the opening of the art museum next week," he says, and eunhyuk feels himself shrink under this. "you could try something like that."
"i only have tickets to sports games," he replies, "and i'm not sure she's going to appreciate going to a seoul knights game with me anytime soon."
minho snorts and props his feet up on the dash of eunhyuk's car, his hands behind his head, and eunhyuk wonders why he manages to always be so cool. "trust me, eunhyuk, she'll love the fact that you even came, regardless of if you bring a gift or not. get her something simple, like a book or a nice shirt or a pair of earrings that you like. i only got her something nice because i can't come to her party." he reaches over and hits eunhyuk's shoulder before opening the car door and wishing him luck as he leaves. eunhyuk ends up sitting in the vehicle alone for the next half hour wondering why and how he is supposed to go about surviving this.
----
eunhyuk ends up the first to arrive carrying three gift bags and a box under one arm on the rooftop of a restaurant looking around for someone he remotely recognizes.
"eunhyuk oppa?" he turns around to see seohyun adjusting the cover of a long table, her hair hanging down past her shoulders. "you're here early."
he glances down at his watch and notices it is six after seven. actually, i'm six minutes late he wants to say, but he doesn't - he just smiles awkwardly and shuffles towards her, when the box under his arm starts sliding forward and he lets out a cry similar to a bird call before seohyun rushes forward and grabs the package, her hand brushing his. "sorry," eunhyuk mumbles, and a faint blush spreads across her cheeks.
"you didn't have to get so much," she whispers, setting it down on a small table to the side. "i wasn't expecting gifts, just a small party."
"i didn't know what to get so i just got everything," eunhyuk replies, and sets the bags down on the same table. he scratches the back of his head and then his eyes widen in realization. "oh, and i got you, um," he starts again, hand reaching for the smallest bag, "a - it's kind of cheesy, but leeteuk said someone had to get it - just a cr - actually, you can just open it yourself." eunhyuk thrusts the bag towards her and she sets it on the table, reaching her arm in only to pull out a small tiara.
"a tiara?"
he shrugs and finds himself scratching his head again. "i don't know. a birthday crown?" and seohyun laughs, setting it on top of her head.
"how does it look?"
eunhyuk glances up only to see that the glitter on the tiara matches the sparkling in her eyes and the color of the jewel brings out her skin tone and her smile is just as perfect as it is on the hd television screen back at the apartment. "it looks great," is all he says, but the corner of her lips still pull up anyways.
the party truly starts twenty minutes later after kyuhyun arrives and he finds himself an awkward third wheel to a pair of maknaes that really have a lot more in common than he realized. later on come heechul and sooyoung, and then jinwoon and amber, and lastly yoona and sunny, though he hears about leeteuk and changmin coming after he leaves (but that doesn't matter to him).
when it comes time to open gifts, eunhyuk ends up sitting in the back watching seohyun open up gifts of expensive clothing (sooyoung / yoona / sunny), name brand jewelry (heechul), autographed books (jinwoon), musical tickets (amber) and even the full boxed set of keroro (kyuhyun), when she arrives to the last two bags and small box. seohyun throws eunhyuk a shy glance and kyuhyun pulls him out from the back, so he is standing right next to her.
"which one should i open first?" she asks, and he shrugs.
heechul hits him and he stutters, "the pink bag."
seohyun smiles softly and reaches into the bag, her hand brushing against the tissue paper inside before she pulls out a perfume set, some line from jessica simpson or hilary duff or one of those american girls that he doesn't know the name of. "scents, eunhyuk, really?" kyuhyun says, and amber snorts though eunhyuk can tell she didn't mean to. "are you trying to imply something?"
"what? no, that isn't what i-"
"it's okay," seohyun interrupts, laughing. she uncaps the bottle and smells it, and then turns to him and smiles. "it smells good. thank you."
he smiles back at her awkwardly while she reaches for the next bag - a soft blue color - and takes out a striped shirt and a long dress. "you got her clothes? eunhyuk, you don't even know how to dress yourself-" heechul begins, and eunhyuk groans.
"my sister chose it out, stupid."
heechul laughs and shakes his head, and eunhyuk wishes his group members weren't so goddamn critical. "what's on the shirt?" jinwoon asks, resting his elbows on the table, and seohyun holds it up so they can all read it.
"64? what's that for?" sooyoung turns to seohyun, one eyebrow raised. "isn't your number 11?"
eunhyuk's eyes widen and he reaches for the shirt, and he wonders what idiocy happened in his head to make him forget this. "what? your number is 11?"
"come on, eunhyuk, you should know this," sunny jokes, and yoona is laughing her fish laugh that makes him want to crawl into a hole and never come out.
"sorry, i thought your favorite number was 64-"
and seohyun cuts him off again, "it is, thank you for remembering. 11 is just the soshi number." she holds the shirt against her chest and looks around at everyone, her eyes wide and innocent and eunhyuk can't help from just liking her so much. "how does it look? good, right?"
she reaches for the last box when packing the shirt back, white and small, when the door to the roof opens and snsd's manager comes in, already dressed in his pajamas. "sorry to interrupt the party, but you guys will have to stop here for the night. the restaurant is closing and you girls-" looking at the four snsd members, "have an early schedule tomorrow."
"but we only have one gift left-" yoona says, and eunhyuk steps back from the table, a half-smile on his face because he doesn't know any other expression.
"you can just open it later," he says, and yoona raises her eyebrow. "i've got to get going anyways." he looks at seohyun and nods his head, and she returns the same though there is a droopy look in her eyes. "thanks for inviting me."
"thanks for coming," and he doesn't talk to her until two weeks later.
----
"hello?"
"hey, eunhyuk oppa, it's seohyun."
"oh, hey seohyun. what's up?"
"i've got, um, an extra ticket to a seoul knights basketball game and-"
"and you need someone to go with?"
"kind of. would you like to come with me? i can't think of anyone else that would like to go."
"of course. sure. yeah, sure, i can go."
"should i ask someone else? you sound kind of busy-"
"i mean yes. i'd love to go."
they get to the game half an hour early in front middle seats, and end up leaving two hours after the game has already ended, walking to his car with his jacket over her shoulders and a bucket of almost finished sweet potatoes in his hands. "that was fun," he says out of nowhere.
"yeah, it was. i didn't think i'd ever like a basketball game so much."
eunhyuk smiles and scratches the back of his head - it seems to be a habit, now, with her around. "i'm glad you liked it."
"i am too. best birthday gift i've ever gotten."
"thank you." eunhyuk feels himself turning red when his loose hand brushes hers and she grabs it, but only wraps it around his pinky so the rest of his fingers are dangling in her grip. "should i, um-"
"no, that's okay. this is fine." eunhyuk looks over and seohyun is smiling, her cheeks also a faint pink, from the cold or embarrassment he doesn't know. but he just smiles and continues walking, ignoring the fact that this might be the best birthday gift he's given too.
04. one night stand
super junior/kara - eunhyuk/seungyeon - pg
428w~
king of idols - eunhyuk doesn't know exactly why he's been invited to this considering the rest of the super junior guys don't do anything either, but he takes it upon himself to explain to everyone that it is because he is special. kyuhyun tells it to him straight, stop trying to convince yourself, and at this heechul laughs. or maybe he was already laughing, eunhyuk doesn't know.
he meets her there, an odd quirky girl that tends to trip over herself a lot and reminds him a bit like himself. han seungyeon, a petite girl kyuhyun's age with less snark and charisma and more humor - his sense of humor, at least. she is funny and interesting and eunhyuk finds that her short hair and ripped shirt and chrome colored skinny pants are a lot more fun than the rest of the girly outfits.
the first thing he ever says to han seungyeon is, "you've got ketchup on your chin," during a lonely lunchtime - though it isn't really lonely, because he is sitting where the boys' side ends and she is sitting where the girls' side begins so they've both got friends they choose not to talk to - and she is eating a burger like he would it. except he doesn't eat burgers, he only eats korean food, and that is that.
"really?" she swipes at her chin with her hand - her unnaturally small, petite hand. "did i get it?"
"uh, it's a little lower." he points at his own chin and she rubs at it again, missing once more. "not yet. it's right..." he trails off and reaches his hand over to her face, wiping it off on his own. "there." seungyeon scratches her chin and then looks at him strangely, and he feels himself turning red. "sorry, i didn't mean to - uh, you could have done that yourself. sorry, i guess i'll just-"
"it's okay," seungyeon says, smiling with a dimple on one side of her face. eunhyuk rubs his neck and gives her an awkward grin, and she giggles, "you're cute," before covering her mouth because that probably wasn't supposed to come out and he laughs because seungyeon is just as awkward as him and for some reason, maybe that, it works.
he chooses krystal later that day because minho's a bitch and he loves to piss him off, but in the end eunhyuk always goes for seungyeon because sometimes the heart wants what the heart wants and eunhyuk's pounding heart just wants the one that is exactly like him.
