Phenomenal - from the blog of another

What do you think the closet or being closeted means to you?

I’m so sorry I’ve been terrible at keeping up with this! I promise from this day forward, I will be better. PROMISE. I even give you permission to yell at me via formspring (as a few of you have, kindly, been doing). :)

The closet is a place we hide because we’re scared. It’s not where we start though. We don’t wake up in those closets. We’re forced into them - sometimes by others, sometimes by ourselves. We live our lives as normally as we know, when, one day, we stumble upon a door.
Open it up, look inside.
Realize that the clothes, the shoes, the belts inside all fit you.
They’re all yours. And they don’t match the lifestyle you’ve grown accustomed to. The clothes inside that closet are far different from those of your friends, your family. Those of society. Although the world around you boasts of its ability to weave different fabrics into one large, tight-knit quilt, the fabrics in your closet are rarely seen.
But they make you happy! Happier than you’ve ever been, in fact. You’re so happy to discover this new, truer version of yourself that you want to flaunt them around. But sometimes the people around you won’t accept it.
You’ve seen other people dress like that before. They were shunned. Lost friends. Lost family. You don’t want that.
So you stay there, in your closet. Because in your closet, it seems that you can have the best of both worlds.

But eventually it brings you down.

Having to hide is not an easy thing. The closet is a place in which people attempt to seek solitude. Hide from hurtful comments and slanted glares.
But the longer we stay there, the longer people will frown upon those that do decide to come out.
Personally, I think coming out is very important. Not only for your sanity, but for the good of humanity. The stronger a voice is, the more change it brings.
