i saw the video again recently for kylie minogue's "locomotion" (i think bill played it @ trivia?) and was remembering how unappealing kylie's look was back then.
she was sweeter and more naive than debbie gibson. blech. all and all, not a very dynamic product to market. except for europe and australia; but, honestly, they like all kinds of trash.
but if i had a time machine, i would go back to, say, 1986 ("locomotion" was released in 1987) and sit down with kylie for a private screening of weird science (which was released in 1985).
kylie's look is not too far off from lisa's (played by kelly lebrock) - just a surplus of the sugar and a shortage on the spice. and that's the image that kylie has finally grown into, right? she just needed that nudge in the right direction back in the day. although, she might have been labeled a tramp back in '87 had she looked like that. but she might have had some staying power in the u.s. marketplace, too.
