I had a moment yesterday, that I'm pretty sure given a chance I would have 'accidentally' caused someone's enormous medical bill.
Normally the following situation wouldn't have bothered me as much as it did last night, but for some reason it just hit me the wrong way.
I was pulling pallets out of the back room, bringing them to their respective departments, so on so forth. So when I start pulling through the receiving door onto the store floor, I see this kid on a bicycle go flying down the main alley past jewelry. The girl at the jewelry counter managed to get a "Could you please not ride a bicycle in the store?" before he was already down to the other end of the store.
From the time I saw him go by, to the time I walked about 20 feet, he had already driven the whole circumference of the store, and I saw him fly by to the front of the store.
Instantly the thought crossed my mind, that if he were to make another round through the store, there was a good chance I may have accidentally tripped into him as he went flying by, or a really heavy, awkward shaped box may have just slipped out of my hands onto the floor in front of him.
I had a ridiculous urge to show that guy how much of an idiot he was, and have no regrets about it. I swear he was peddling through the store ~20mph. Fortunately for him, once he got to the front, apparently he dropped the bike and booked it out of the store and got away. One of the salesmen grabbed the bike and brought it back to the bike rack in the store.
I even thought as far as standing in front of him, unlike the other customers moving out of the way. Only would have hurt me for a few seconds, but he would have been one hell of a mess.
Meh, I think what set me off is the fact he seemed so cocky about it, and maybe the fact that someone even went through the trouble to politely ask him to stop? I also know it's rare for kids and people to move out of the aisles, or pay attention when they move into the main stretches, for many times I've had 4 ton pallets of pets I was pulling, and had to stop, and the best I could do was let the damned thing push me 3 feet.
Idiots trying to race through a store.
