I HAVE SUFFERED FOR MY ART

Instead of doing things like catching up on the internet, I played Tales of Innocence some more (I might have to reassess my opinion on the characters; there's a bunch of skits and stuff that don't appear until NG+ and they're interesting. The plot is still a bit ehhh though) and...

Spada Belforma performing Twin Demon Fang/Double Demon Fang. Not all details are shown here since this isn't the finished picture. So half of these images are actually him in mid-air and there should be the demon fang being shot out, but obviously that's not done yet!

Attack animation frames were taken from this video and used as reference, with modifications to look more natural since video game models have limitations. There were 20+ frames of the attack so I obviously discarded several. I also didn't end up doing the landing, because the transition from attack animation to landing animation isn't fluid! I'm probably gonna drop frame 8 in the final one since I don't need it any more.

I had a lot of fun drawing this, though! Spada's design hits that wonderful sweet spot between complex and simple; it's complex enough to look interesting, while simple enough to draw easily. As a bonus, you can see how difficult it is for me to draw a character for the first time. There definitely isn't the same level of fluidity there. Also I'm starting to make the transition back to 'anime eyes'. Dunno how long I'll stick to that.

Pretty happy with how this all turned out; it looks a lot better than I expected and took far less time. I think the gesture drawings I've been doing helped out a lot. I was surprised at how clean the sketch turned out, considering my sketches are usually a horrible mess. I think it's because I used two sketch layers. One for getting the general body structure and then another draw Spada in properly (I used to do this all on the same layer). I think the 2nd sketch layer is actually clean enough to use as inks so... I think I might keep doing this in future.

For the record, I didn't eat anything the whole day except for a bit of bread, and my left arm and hand were seizing up BUT I PRESSED ON TO FINISH THESE and now I think my arm has gone beyond pain now.

TOTALLY WORTH IT THOUGH.
