Rose blinked at the abruptness of it all. She didn’t respond to Trian’s rather clipped tones and orders. She was too surprised to be angry about being pushed around. Normally, such an order would have had her back up and a snarl on her face.

By the time she realized this, it was too late. He was already out the door.

“Fine.” she growled. Too little, too late. Turning a rather graceful turn on her heel, she stomped up the stairs and into the room that had apparently become hers. Something I can move in...

Pushing all of her dresses aside, she pulled out the pair of dark breeches she wore under her dresses when the night promised the need for her to move. This time, she left out the dress. She pulled on a white, light shirt. The sleeves laced up her forearms where they were snug there. Perfect for hiding a dagger. After tucking all her daggers away under her cloths and boots, Rose pulled her heavy dark brown curls into a ball at the back of her head. She jammed to chop stick looking ornaments in her head. They effectively held her thick hair back and could be used as weapons should her daggers be spent.

After a quick glance and a nod of approval into the mirror, Rose hurried down the stairs. She checked her step at the base of them, not wanting Trian to think that she had rushed just for him. A sad attempt a rebellion, but it was she had at the moment.

Casually, she pulled open the door and shot him a cold glance where he leaned against the wall.

“Are you going to tell me what this is all about?” she grumbled.

Trian opened his eyes to look down at Rosalie, examining her with his eyes from top to bottom with no change of expression. After a long moment, he gave a slight nod although it was ambiguous; whether it was one of approval or one of just acceptance of her presence or simply something else could be debated.

Uncrossing his arms, Trian stopped leaning against the wall and began to walk at a brisk pace. Not answering her question yet, he breathed in the night air, still fresh after the rains. Luckily, tonight there was no sign of an evening shower, let alone a storm.

"I wish to see how well you can defend yourself," he said without looking at Rosalie as they walked through the streets, "and perhaps rectify your form if it is lacking. I hope," he added flatly, staring straight ahead as he turned down another path, "that you are not as useless when faced with danger as you seem to be."

Rose stiffened. Defend herself? ...Great. She followed after Trian like a seemingly dutiful puppy, brooding over his first words until his last ones were spoke.

Useless? "Why don't you tell me how you really feel?" she muttered, sarcasm ringing loud in her voice. Of course, though she was seething beneath her calm facade, she couldn't blame him. She hadn't exactly done well when at the hands of Cragan. Maybe it was because he embodied everything she feared. Cold, hearless, murdering, insane...etc. He had taken everything she ever loved, everything she had come to know. She wasn't like Isabelle. She could run to meet that thing head on.

She pulled her attention back to Trian and she quicken her step, having to stretch her shorter legs to match his long stride. Okay, she could benefit from this. Sure, she could throw an impressivly accurate dagger, but hand to hand combat hadn't been something her father ever taught her. He had taught her to throw daggers more for a hobby than a real defense. She doubted that he ever thought she would need to defend herself. Figured that he would always be around to protect his little girl.

"I am not doing this for my own benefit, but yours," he said sharply, closing his eyes momentarily before opening them again, tilting his head to look up at the sky. "Starting next week, if you are kidnapped again -- or something of the like -- do not expect me to come to your rescue because I will not."

After some time walking through the outskirts of Lespire, they arrived at an open plain, far away from the lights of the city. Trian closed his eyes for a moment, once again expanding his consciousness so he could sense sentient presences in a moderately large radius around him. There was no sense in being careless; although this was one of the better places to conduct this far from curious eyes (the people living here were used to seeing lantern lights out at night), it was a double edged sword. He was keeping an 'eye' out for any potential threats or interruptions.

Namely, Cragan. Despite Isabelle and Damon's plans, he wasn't one to leave his guard down. Tonight would be the perfect time to ambush them if he was not paying attention.

"Hm, this seems like a good enough place," Trian said, more to himself than Rosalie. With one word, two flames came to life by his shoulders, and with another, they shot up a few feet to hang in the air, bathing their immediate area in light. The plain was gently sloping, covered in tall grasses that reached past halfway up Trian's calves, making it more difficult to move completely silently. If one wasn't careful, there was the ocassional rock hidden under the grass, ready to trip the unwary.

"Wonderful..." Rose muttered. As usual, Trian muffed up a good deed with his outstandingly snobbish attitude.

Rose survey the area they had come to. Large, open spaces had always made her feel so small. But, she supposed it was necessary.

Her attention was diverted by the soft glow that illuminated their small little patch of Earth that Trian had deigned worthy. Rose idly hoped that he was careful with that fire. This tall grass would go up in a heartbeat with a stray flame, despite the recent rain.

With a sigh, Rose faced Trian and held out her arm beside her. "So, what now? You attack me and I defend? I have daggers, not magic like you..."
