Wow. Not Too Good With This Whole Updating Thing, Am I?

Jul 30, 2005 00:08

Because it's been over a month since last I updated this silly blog-thing, I decided it was time to give it a go. Let's see, where did I leave off last... ah yes! My cruise vacation to Mexico! Needless to say, it was awesome beyond all expectations. We toured the ancient Mayan ruins of Tulum, swam in the crystal-blue waters of the lagoon at Xel-Ha, and spent a relaxing day at the beach on Passion Island (also where I had both my first legal Corona and my first legal margarita). I have a variety of wonderful pictures of the trip, none of which will be in this LJ update (though they are available on individual request). We met a really cool family from a suburb of Pittsburgh on the ship, the Wu Family, with whom we ate dinner most of the nights of the cruise. Very fun peoples. Speaking of the food, it was to DIE for. All of the sit-down dinners were first class. I tried escargot for the first time, and it was actually quite good. The week passed by way too quickly, but all good things must come to an end, eh?

Another amazing event: Connecticon. IT RAWKED MY FACE OFF. I met Mookie from Dominic Deegan and Dave from Chugworth, and I almost met Tim from Ctrl+Alt+Del. I can't remember much of my encounter with Mookie; I think that in my fit of fanboyishness, I may have had a heart-attack, a stroke, and then another heart-attack over the course of about 10 seconds. I bought two 1st Edition AD&D books, and revelled in my own vintage geekiness. My Miki Kaoru cosplay went over quite well with the ladiez; I got more than a few compliments/random hugs from otaku chicks for my choice of character. Yay for being noticed by the opposite sex! Can't say *that* happens very often...

In other (unsuprising) news, Kidcity still sucks. (shrugs) But I guess it's better than selling my organs on the black market. My supervisor always manages to talk me into working extra hours so she can leave early; I usually agree just because I get a few more hours of pay out of the deal. Bee-tee-dubya, many appologies to the Oddfellows Circus folk who are reading this, as I was unable to attend the circus today. I didn't get out of work until 5:30, and by the time I got home, I was wiped out. I hope things went swimmingly/everybody broke a leg/nobody died/etc.

I realized I'll be going back to school in less than a month. It almost scares me. Almost. I've got a week of band camp ahead of me after I get there, so I get to meet up with all sorts of cool people I haven't seen for three months. My buddy Nate (a fellow trumpeter and nerd extraordinaire) wants to start up a D&D session this semester, and I may be DMing it! Hoody-hoo! It's been a long-ass time since last I ran a session, but I've got a few story hooks up my sleeve that I think will do nicely.

Huh. I originally started writing this post because I was lying awake in bed, my mind churning over emo-flavored thoughts about how I can't get a girlfriend or work out my own fucked-up emotional problems or even figure out what the hell I want in life. However, in recapping all the cool stuff that's happened to me this summer, I really don't feel like bitching anymore. I guess the moral of this story is that when you can't get past the bad times, thinking of the good times can help put things in perspective.

P.S. I promise to update more often when I get back to school. I'm sure I'll have LOTS more to say when band and school start up again... maybe even TOO much! (dun dun DUN!)
