Mako sat at her desk just staring at something. She was completely lost in her thoughts.
A hand was placed on her shoulder, causing her to jump out of her silent debate with herself.
“Mako, you are still going to take pictures of the cheerleaders and the mascot today right.” Her editor Skori asked.
Mako quickly responded, “Yes, of course I am; right after school today.”
Skori smiled. “What has you so jumpy?”
“Oh it’s nothing. Really...nothing.” Mako turned back to her desk as Skori left not at all convinced that Mako was ok.
‘What am I thinking?’ Mako thought to herself. ‘I don’t even think he’ll like it. We haven’t even gotten to know each other. I think we’ve talked all of two times! What am I thinking?!’
Mako was running through this dialogue in her head, as she headed to the gym were the cheerleaders and the mascot where practicing. As she was thinking she wasn’t really watching were she was going.
Suddenly she was stopped because she ran into something warm, and very solid.
“Huh.” She looked up to see her friend Linda. She quickly apologized for running into her.
“What’s got you so frazzled?” As always Linda picked up on Mako’s mood immediately.
Mako blushed remembering how she and Chochi had teased Linda, and feared a worse round as retaliation. “Um...”
“Come on. How bad can it be?”
“Not bad, just....Oh well, might as well just show you and get it over with!” Mako shifted through her bag, and pulled out a piece of paper, she than thrust the paper into Linda’s hands. “Here, look at that.”
Linda looked at the paper. “Awww....it’s so adorable Mako, but you know I’m never going to let you live this down right?” She replied with a smirk; that looked almost scary.
“Yeah, yeah I know.” Mako said through a sigh. “Just help me get it to him ok?”
“Of course I will.” Linda’s smirk changed to a sweet smile.
“Thanks.” And they both headed toward the gym.
The pep team was already into their practice, and Mako felt bad about interrupting it, so she set up and got some action shots. They finally noticed her, and Sachi had everyone stop.
“Hey, Mako. You’re here for some team pics right?”
“Yup, I hope you don’t mind that I started already.”
“Don’t worry about it. Anyway were do you want us?” The next half hour was spent with Mako rearranging the pep team, mostly moving the cheerleaders around their Mascot. Gene was happy with this, because he didn’t have to move that often.
Finally she was done, and Sachi told her team to hit the showers because practice was over.
“So when are you going to give it to him?” Linda surprised Mako, as she was putting her camera away.
“Um...tomorrow.” She said as she was about to run out of the gym with half of her things still on the floor.
“No-today.” Linda said as she pushed Mako toward the boys locker room door; the same door that Gene was stepping out of at the moment.
“Um..hi.” Mako started.
“Hey, were you waiting for something?” Gene asked.
“No-I mean yes. I was waiting for you.” She stammered out.
“Me? You sure?”
“Yup.” And she put the card in his hand. “Here.” And ran out of the gym.
