I see why OB practices like to have on-call rotations for the sanity of the doctors, but it completely sucks that you don't get to choose who delivers you. It's such a major, important life event, it really would be best to be delivered by the doctor one trusts most.

I called the doula today and spoke with her about our situation. We were supposed to meet with her on Thursday, but we're pushing it to next week so we can talk to my OB first. Josh trusts her much more than some doula he's never met, so it's best if he hears everything coming from her, first.

First, I'm going to ask her if there's any chance she could be the one to deliver me. I'm one of her patients who followed her from the old practice, and there's a small chance that she'll make accomodations for us. It's worth asking, anyway.

I know that she'll be totally honest with me, and I'm sure she won't be offended if I choose to go back to the old practice for delivery. My doula said that the other doctor there is excellent with natural childbirth, and he's already familiar with us. If I switch, I'll most likely go to him.

Lots to think about! I just hate not having plans in place... Right now, we have a travel system. That's it. No bassinette, no pump, no bottles, no pediatrician, and now - no birth plan. This kind of disorganization makes me batty.

Yeah, I also get very antsy when things are disorganized. You still have some time though.

While you are waiting to hear from the doula and OB, why don't you start calling pediatricians? If you need names, call the OB office and ask the office staff to help out. Even if you plan to move, you can always find a new pedi later.

A pump and bottles would be good to have around--if you can't get to a store, you can order a lot of that stuff online. All the pump manufacturers will tell you not to use previously used ones, but a lot of that is because they lose money, so if you know anyone who can give or lend you a pump, at least for a few weeks until you get your own, go for it. Bassinette is not as crucial--infants can sleep anywhere and as long as she's on her back, it's all good---the car seat, stroller or a dresser drawer will all work. You might be able to get ahold of a used PNP (or a new one) and use the basinette function of that.

I'm going to set up an interview with the pedi I have in mind for sometime next week. It's the only one that I've heard good things about via other mommies.

As far as stuff, I'm currently working on a list of things we definitely must have by the time the baby comes. Breast pump, bassinette, bath supplies, feeding supplies, etc. Somehow, it still adds up to around $1200. Ugh.

I have a 15% off any one item at BRU and I plan to use it with the pump. I checked the fine print, and the only thing it excludes regarding feeding are formula and breast pump rental fees. This isn't a rental, so it shouldn't be a problem.

We thought about foregoing a bassinette and sticking with a pack n play, but there really isn't enough room to put one in our living room. The room is quite tiny to begin with, and currently houses our regular LR furniture and the futon we sleep on.

Moving to sleep upstairs won't be a possibility until the warmer weather comes because that part of the house will not hold the heat - no matter how high you set the thermostat. Anyway, the bedroom is even smaller and definitely won't have enough room.

I might be able to carve out 2 tiny spots in the living room - one for a bassinette, another for a little swing or bouncer, so she's got something to keep her occupied while she's awake.
